This came up at dinner the other night with me, one black man, 3 white girls. They all thought he was innocent or maybe, at the worst, one or two incidents were real and all the others were trying to get famous/rich.

There's a worse level of depravity with a guy that pill rapes dozens of women vs a guy that just didn't want to speak out about boys getting raped.

Bill Cosby is a sociopath like Sandusky, like Bernard Madoff.

I think this is going to be the biggest justice done. Probably the most valuable thing Cosby had in life was his legacy and image. With both gone, I think he'll die pretty miserable, even with all that money in the bank. He would have probably traded 98% of his money for 100% of his legacy.

The girls just said that cuz they didnt want to ruffle any feathers, especially if there was wine at that dinner.

The internet comments questioning why these allegations are coming up decades later, or saying those women are after his money, are just disgusting.

I even had a female facebook friend comment how this is all happening because Cosby criticized obamacare.

This whole thing is a lesson in how the media can shape the public impression or image of someone.

If they wanna demonize someone, they can demonize them, no matter what.
If they wanna deify someone, they can deify them, no matter what.

I think the main reason all this stuff blew up now is simply the nature of the internet. In the pre-internet age if the mainstream media refused to cover something, you could easily simply never hear about it. It was a hell of a lot easier to cover things up back then, just by simply ignoring them, you weren't even actively covering anything up, you just never acknowledge it and it's like it never existed.

When that comedian made that joke, it was a lot of people's first time even HEARING about the allegations, myself included. People's initial anger was at the comedian for daring to criticize beloved Cosby, but it also made people wonder WTF he was talking about it and got people curious and digging.

It also served as a catalyst to get many additional accusers to finally come forward. If you've been silent about something for like 20 years you aren't just gonna randomly come out one day and say Bill Cosby raped me, but since it was in the news there was context for doing so.

It doesn't surprise me so many people are still going to bat for him, when you've looked up to somebody for decades it's difficult to grasp everything you've believed was just a lie made up by the media and in your own mind. People like to believe what they want to be true. The Joe Paterno parallel is spot on in this regards.

The closer I get to being in the clasp of death's bony grip the less I think people ultimately care about their legacy.

Ya never know, it certainly wouldn't make me happy to know I would be remembered as a major ******* rather than a beloved American icon. Ultimately after your dead it's a non-issue but it at least makes the last few years a bummer.

Paterno completely lucked out in that regard, he kicked the bucket almost instantly after the thing blew up so he never had to see the aftermath. Plus he was probably senile as hell anyway and barely knew wtf was going on.

I guess the Cosby allegations are much worse since he's accused of actually committing the awful crimes himself, rather than just enabling them.

The real turning point, IMO, was when Cosby's PR people set up a "Meme Cosby!" thing with pictures, and it went horribly wrong on Twitter. Kind of makes me think that the PR person must have been drugged and raped by Cosby and this was the way of getting the word out.

Hiding in plain sight is a tact I'd expect from Cosby and others like him.

I gotta say, I found the suggested memes by his pr team as being so banal and "hey I'm really a lovable harmless guy", they were actually creepy. Probably cuz he's a suspected serial rapist.

Really banal stuff like "Have a great day. You deserve it", "Hello friend" and one of Cosby's trademark stupid faces with "homnomnom, I love cookies!", or "cake. I love it I love it I love it".
The damage limitation was so palpable, with the blatant "I'm really harmless and not a sexual predator vibe" it was just plain creepy actually.

I gotta say, it's one of my favorite films & shamelessly entertaining for me. I went to see it in the theater at the time and counted the walkouts when James Gandolfini went medieval on Patricia Arquette.

I don't believe you because you didn't behave in the exact way I, a purely logical and rational being, would have done 100% of the time.

He should come clean and also admit he broke Wilt Chamberlain's record.

The fact remains that most of these allegations come without proof. Its obvious the fella is guilty but its impossible to say 'no one would do this and that just for the money' just as its impossible to say 'no one would behave this and that way if they really were raped decades ago'.

What's your point?

A lot of people seem to simply dismiss the possibility of not all claims being truthful because 'you dont know how people behave and they wouldn't lie'. It works both ways, you dont know how people behave.
