I've searched online and seen lots of discussions about particular brands of special wool that aren't available in my developing country.

All I'm looking for is a warm comfortable sock that will actually let my feet breathe and won't make them somewhat cold and sweaty. I'm still not even sure how a sock can make your feet sweat yet not keep them warm.

It's harder than it would appear to be. I'm not looking for much.

Appreciate the response but as I mentioned in my post , any discussion of particular brands will be of no help to me.

I think it would be impossible to find them locally and ordering from the internet is not an option for me either.

I'll see if it's available here but I also don't want to spend 25$ on a pair of socks either. Are they affordable ?

Any cheaper more available options ?

Or mentioning fabrics I should avoid perhaps might help me more ?

I bought a 2pack of merino wool socks for $7, they can go for as high as $25/pair if you shop at high end stores or big chain department stores.

I don't think fabrics to avoid is a good topic, you aren't going to get socks made of plastic. All socks are made of good material it just depends on what you are looking for.

Is it comfort, durability, breathability, overall thickness of the sock, style, intended purpose (only wearing said sock for biking/snowboarding/work etc) you are looking for?

Jfc...get as close to 100% cotton as you can.
Stay away from synthetic fibers,they will not let your skin breathe.

I'm in Peru but here in Arequipa unlike Lima the climate is dry and it can get quite cold at night. I'm looking for warm socks that will let my feet breathe. That cold sweat that certain fabrics produce really bother me. Comfort is obviously a no brainer , I don't want to wear uncomfortable socks. Thickness , breathability and warmth are what I'm looking for.

I've heard mixed comments concerning cotton but it may be the easiest , cheapest option for me if they really do allow your feet to ventilate.

Sorry to burst your bubble but not everyone lives in an area where June is a warm month. The world is a large place.

June and July are the coldest months and considered Winter in South America and not all areas of S.A. are considered tropical climates.

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing flip flops. I don't want to subject others to my apelike legs and hobbit like feet.

I like to wear flip flops with socks.

After seeing him on the HU championship with socks and flip flops I made a comment about how it seemed fairly sad to wear them on national TV and he actually responded to my comment. Had a good laugh at that.

So cotton is a decent choice for ventilation and for warmth if they're thick enough ?
