I am definitely a believer in a small amount of sauce with brisket, but everything looks amazing.

2 observations: That smoker is the nuts and the brisket looks outstanding!

Getting ready to do a tri-tip in a couple of hours.

What grill/smoker would you guys buy if you were looking for a brand new one to cook a wide variety of meats?

Am leaning Big Green Egg now, but there are probably better options. I think we have $900-1100 to spend, but if we don't use it all we can spend on either accessories or completely different things as this is a wedding gift for a friend who likes to grill and just bought his first house.

BGE is mega elite and you really can't go wrong with it imo.

If you really want to pimp the guy out get a smoker and leave enough money to also get him a bbq guru type gadget.
Or make his life super easy and get him a pellet smoker but you've gotta judge if he's a purist type guy or would be cool with that.

BGE or similar kamado is the way to go hands down imo. You can cook literally anything on a BGE and it cooks amazing food, no matter what type of food it is.

Make sure you get him a wireless thermometer also. Maverick makes a really good one at a good price. Or if you wanna get fancy, they make one for the iphone that can read the temps in your grill/meat from anywhere with phone reception. The maverick only reads up to 300ft away or something.

Another vote for BGE or one of the knockoffs. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

Costco has a knockoff for $750. I think they were on sale for $600 recently.

I may get one next year if I decide to start my own BBQ team.

Smoking some beef short ribs tonight...they couldn't get me the full 3-4 pound slab to do Dino style but I got some nice thick "standard" short ribs. Will get some pics if I don't get too drunk, it's 50/50

Cooked these spare ribs on a Weber Genesis at a rental cabin in Tahoe this week. Low heat, lots of flipping

Anyone have recommendations in the Dallas Fort Worth area for best Texas style BBQ? Going to be there for a few days and I've never been to Texas before but I want to try some delicious BBQ places while I'm there.

Hood,

Just google best BBQ in Dallas and you'll be fine. Here's one list that comes up:

https://www.thrillist.com/eat/dallas...ints-in-dallas

I haven't been to either, but Dallas friends rave about Off the Bone and Lockhart Smokehouse.

Brisket and ribs are the top two things to get in Texas BBQ.

Lockhart's and Mike Anderson's are my two favorites.

DFW area is huge, so it sort of matters where you're staying. Pecan Lodge and Lockhart are my 1 and 2. If you want to check out the local craft brew scene while you're at it, Pecan Lodge is in a great spot.

Hutchins and Cattleack are decent. I tend to steer people away from Hard 8.

Pecan Lodge would be my vote.

Is "voted" something different than leaving a review?
