I'm used to youtube providing side links to vids that I might be interested in bec of prior searches. I signed up w/ Facebook just so that I could check into my ex's daughter who I was interested in bec, since her new husband (the poor fool) didn't want to be very involved, she came to me to take the kid w/ her to the zoo and such. I'd created the simplest page and, don't you know, the next thing I knew it'd filled in all sorts of info like where I'd gone to school and nm the horde of emails I got from the 100's of people who all of a sudden knew me from somewhere and wanted to become a 'friend' in like a couple of days. All of that I'm used to.

This, however, THIS is the final straw. I play regularly at Talking Stick which is on Tribal land East of Scottsdale, AZ. Just now I logged onto Photobucket and there was this pop-up add:

WHAT IN THE DAMN HELL IS THIS?

Something must be done and I'm ready to do my part. Problem being IDK how to fight back so I want to know if there's anything any of us can do.

Suggestions? Similar stories?

Howard, Working in the gaming industry I know a lot of their current marketing focus is utilizing your Facebook metadata via check-ins, did you check in when you were playing once, or even checked in at a cafe/restaurant nearby? (silly get a free beer if you like X)

The majority of casino marketing is now targeting anyone who has recently checked in around the property, so id assume this is the exact same target audience for the opposite side (Anti-gambling)

Edit: On an weird note, I have had conversations where the actual casino marketing team is pushing anti-gambling marketing, as it allows them to fulfill their "community service" of advising gambling is an addiction, without having to have anything at or around the property level. Plus anything that gets "I play at X casino, I know my limits" is still subliminal marketing at its finest.

One thing you could do is use the DuckDuckGo search engine which doesn't store any of your data

Get ******* or you could delete you cookies constantly. Wherever you go on the interwebs is basically tracked and then FB and YT put up ads based on your preferences.

This is standard internet datamining---->tailored ads for you marketing.

So posting on 2p2 is picked up by the state and they arrange a pop-up add on Photobucket?

Block third-party cookies.
Clear browsing history on exit.
Log out of websites before leaving (especially Google and Facebook).
If you use your phone for browsing the internet you're screwed.

Howard, I'm sorry to break it to you, but it wasn't Facebook who did this to you, or Google, or any other advertiser. It was your friends here at 2+2, staging an intervention. You're always talking about trying to stay away from the Blackjack tables, even offering rewards, etc. Well this is an intervention. We all love you and want you to get help for your gambling addiction.

Everybody: While I don't know chillrob very well on a personal level I've played in games w/ him often enough and he's one of the good guys. chill, I take this kindly.

Seriously, though, I still don't get it. Photobucket somehow knows my browsing history, puts it on the market, and the Arizona Dept of Gambling or w/e decides to pay them for an add directed at me? Really?

Is there a way for them to track non-online purchases?

I bought a very specific/rareish type of beer a while back that I had never purchased before nor researched online. I also didn't text/email anyone about my purchase. As far as I could tell there was no online record of the transaction aside from using my debit card.

Starting the very next day, I got daily sponsored Instagram ads for that specific beer for a couple weeks. Still can't figure that one out
