Attacked by pit bull, should I sue? Attacked by pit bull, should I sue?

I was at a dog park with my 2 dogs in Las Vegas last week where dogs run free without leashes. My friendly 80 lb dog was playing with a 40 pound pit bull and I tried to collect my dog when the pit bull then bit me 3 times. The owner's basically said it was my fault for not controlling my dog. I got a tetanus shot but now felt I should have had the pit bull quarantined for rabies. I am not the suing type, but the owners were not very nice and I read the average dog bite settlement is 32k! But I also read most homeowners insurance exclude covering pit bulls. I only got the cell number of the owner, but it is an east coast number. I was able to then get the owner's name and east coast address ( an apt) from the internet. Advice?

I would sue/whatever the **** out of them, claiming its your fault is crazy and I would make them pay.

You should sue yourself for wearing white socks with those loafers.

But on a serious note, lawyer up and get every penny you can from those scumbags, and make sure their dog is put down or sent to a shelter or a sanctuary to be rehabilitated.

More serious response later, but for now:

Stop skipping leg day.

I'm curious why you didn't call the police while you were still at the dog park.

I'm not very litigious, but when a situation arises where I think I could spare someone else future agony at the hands of whomever caused my issue I'm all for it. In this situation, it is likely that some other dog or person will be harmed by the other dog. You should do whatever you can to prevent that from happening.

Not sure what you'd get suing--that can't be worth much--but sure, why not. Call animal control/police and file a report so there is documentation that the owner knew his dog attacks people. Since the attack was "your fault" and he's obviously not going to start muzzling and controlling his dog it public, at least this way he is held responsible when his dog kills a toddler next month.

Agreed. It's also quite possible this was not the dog's first attack - which would both make your suit much easier and also possibly require them to put down a dangerous dog.

Well it was kind of your own fault for not feeding the dogs for 7 days I'd say

If you wanted 32k you should have jabbed a pen in those wounds before taking pictures.

Sue them for as much as you can.

It's what they deserve for having a dog in a public dog park that bites people. **** those people.

This is another of the many reasons why I have a CCW. Those *******s would have witnessed their dog getting shot.

Those appear to be house slippers. All socks are acceptable. In fact, I'm wearing my slippers right now with white socks. They even have the gray heel.

Sue them. I can't stand people that think their dog can do no wrong.

You were bit and they had an attitude?! Nice, well that is a strong indicator they are clueless, and as such you should do all you can to keep that pit away from the unsuspecting. The dog's next victim could easily be maimed by that breed. Please do what you can!

I think after one bite i'm putting that 40 lb puppy in my physical control. Those bites really don't look bad at all. It's the blood streaks that make it look worse than it is. Sure you could sue, but I don't think our gonna get much money for those scratches. It would probably end up being a whole lot of trouble for nothing. Also stop being such a bitch.

Your dog needs to step up.

I would go to the shelter, adopt a "risky" pitbull and train him. Do some weight training, and attack training on human/dog dummies.

Once your dog is ready for war return to the park regularly and try to get your revenge.

I'd sue before that and do the above after the process.

Yes, those are my house slippers. I took off my sneakers when I came back to the house.
