Re: Ask Me Anything: Yeah I'm GOS, what about it?

I see what you mean now. Really the only time I've heard someone say "I have a lot of gay friends" is when I'm coming out to someone and that's the only thing they can think of saying to make me comfortable. Most commonly with people I'm nervous coming out to. I sort of write it off as them not really having any other way to communicate that they are ok with it. If I put myself in their shoes I'd probably say the same thing.

Obviously if you have a problem with gay people and say "It's ok, I have gay friends" as a way to apologize for it, that's just douchey.

I think it's somewhat natural for this to happen, though. So much of what we do/say/see revolves around sex, and heterosexuality is just assumed normally. There have been times when I'd want to make some comment in a conversation and would either have to come out as gay at the same time or switch up the gender and lie. It would be easier for people to just know I'm gay from the start to avoid having to explain anything later.

The other issue is that most gay people struggle with that part of themselves for a long time and have kept it hidden for so long, so when they're ready to let it out there, it's a big deal to them.

Or at least that's what I imagine is going on.

so you start a megathread here and constantly reference your sexual preferences in threads a la Ron Burgundy?

Soooo this... otherwise I'd lodge a complaint here to ask the gay prostitutes that hang out in the Chicago Boystown Walgreens parking lot to be a little more discreet. No one wants to see them blowing people in public.

Alas, I don't think that will be very effective.

That's not true. Well, depends on what they look like.

Yeah, this the impression I guess I'm trying to avoid. I'm probably just being paranoid though, since I had the benefit of being raised in an open minded environment, so I doubt I ever really come across as homophobic in the first place.

So how do you come out to your friends? How do you meet a guy IRL? How do you keep things from being awkward around your friends if you haven't came out?

Or did the bf just agree to it just because it is a less likely scenario then having a gay male join in a 3-way?
Some interesting points coming up, I like it.

Thats a good question, the 3-way thing with a straight guy started out as more of a joke. My bf originally brought up the idea and we both liked the thought of "the fantasy" of a 3-way with a straight guy. My straight friends are also fairly good looking and was mostly directed towards them. It wasn't just a random straight guy, or at least we haven't discussed that yet.

I think it would be more comfortable with a friend plus you know they are clean and dont have the herps, ect.

Talked to my gf about this thread and we decided to go to the pride events they are having here in a few weeks (well she was already going, now I'm just going with). Is my Denver Nuggets throwback t-shirt appropriate attire for this?

cut the nipples out of the shirt and you'll be fine. I'll be spending my time deleting knives out from my ipod.

This is actually perfect, why have I never thought of that before? Chicago's pride is this weekend and I might have to try and hunt down a throwback Nuggets jersey.

When did they change their uniforms? Between the Nuggets and the U of Hawaii, I wonder if the popularity of gay rights had anything to do with them changing the logo/nickname.
