Re: The Ask A Cop Thread

pretty much every time i have come in contact with police officers they have always acted narcissistic, egotistical, unfriendly and have never felt that they fulfilled the "serve" portion of their slogan. do u agree that a lot of them act like this? if so what do u think can be done to change this?

Can we try to be just slightly less leading with the questions?

Sick video. I'd hate to be in that situation, your reactions tend to go overboard when you witness someone almost murdered, doubly so when it's someone you're close to.

I was answering a call for a domestic/noise, the complaint came from the neighbors. It's about 2am, I hate to admit it but I've kind of went into autopilot. As I stroll up, I ALMOST rang the doorbell. Then my training kicked on and I glanced through the window beside the door, where I could clearly see two black males one holding a shot gun one holding a GLOCK standing in the house, standing over 3 Hispanic males and a Hispanic female. Then a 3rd black male comes into view.

I moved back to my car as fast as I could do so tactically, took cover and whispered into my radio "Active home invasion, 3 armed males, 4 hostages, send everybody".

That was one of those times where not only could a mistake have gotten me killed, it could've killed 4 other people.

It's common where I'm at. I believe it's common pretty much nationwide, although I'm unsure. With the amount of work that must be done to keep those dogs performing, I don't see how it can reasonably be done without taking them home.

Ideally you're floating, doing crime suppression type work (actually being proactive instead of answering calls which is reactive law enforcement) until the dog is called.

In reality you're very likely handling a zone, answering calls for service, although due to the dog they do try not to send you out on things that are going to take more than 10 minutes or so to complete. As shown earlier in my "noise complaint/home invasion" story, it doesn't always work out. They expected me to knock on the door, go "Hey, it's 2am, can you STFU? Thank you"

I think the penalties should be very harsh for hurting any kind of animal. In GA legislation is going through right now to make it a felony to injure or attempt to injure a police K9. That being said, I'm NOT in favor of these states adding "On An Officer" to crimes committed against the dog. That's just overkill.

Speaking of which, this guy needs a serious phone/letter campaign started against him and the judge who reinstated him IMO.

The biggest things that would sway me toward citing someone were running down lists of every cop you've ever met/known and telling me who you're related to.

With the laptops in the cars now, and a basic understanding of how to conduct Internet research, the amount cops must commit to memory has decreased greatly. If I'm involved in a situation I'm unsure of, I can within about 2 minutes locate and read the code section on any topic I need to.

Hell where I was you didn't even have to have Internet access, the state codes were on every laptop in a searchable offline database on the hard drive.

Have you ever busted a poker game or had any other gambling related bust?
What are your thoughts on hypocritical gambling laws (ex legal to play lotto w state but pokers and sports betting are illegal)?
What goes through your mind when passing an Asian massage parlor which is rumored to have happy endings?

How accurate can you be wrt to judging speed by "pacing". I only ask because I was pulled over recently and I am quite certain he over estimated my speed by 3 miles an hour.

Is there a reasonable chance that me claiming he is FOS will work if I went to court?

About a 45 min standoff while an entry team was put in place. Due to the fact that it was a small mobile home, we split the team into two entry teams, 4 front 3 rear, did a simultaneous entry.

Everyone was fine, only injuries were some cuts and bruises on the victims from a few hits from the invaders.

Definitely could've been much worse.

1) No. We "busted" a local ADA's poker game once on a prank "ordered" by a high ranking official.

2)Just that, I find them hypocritical.

Asking somebody about their experiences as a cop = fine
Using this thread to make some stupid point about cops in general = not ok.

It depends on the level of training. What are the circumstances? If you can prove he's off by 3 mph is that going to make a huge difference?

Re: The Ask A Cop Thread

Traveling 80/70 430 pm. busyish stretch 4 lane expressway(restricted entry). I am a compulsive use of cruise control. My gps said 80mph and my speedo said 78.(I had to put slightly larger tires on my work truck).

I mean even if he concedes 80...I still got a ticket.

Is there a foolproof way, like a breathizer, to determine if somebody is high or not? Say the suspect has taken all the necessary precautions to be visibly not high.

Do you personally believe weed should be illegal? Or regulated similar to alcohol?

How many people have you dealt with that have died from weed overdose?

Thanks.
