Re: Apple iPad Thread

I got a new iPad 3 - voice to text worked for about a day, then hasn't worked since - for 3 or 4 days now. The purple dots just wiggle a while the go away. I've tried killing all the apps and rebooting.

Apparently this is not an uncommon problem: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...iw=753&bih=905

Interstingly my iPhone 4S was doing the same thing. So I tried the advice in the thread above - close all the apps and make a Siri request. Siri worked, and immediately after voice to text started working, after being down for days. Unfortunately no Siri on iPad.

Any ideas?

Re: Apple iPad Thread

Why do I always get all the weird bugs that no one else seems to get?

Re: Apple iPad Thread

I bet an Apple genius can fix it. Seriously, Apple has great support and you paid a ton for it. So use it.

Best idea I could come up with is something you probable did in the first 5 minutes. Cold boot the puppy.

Also test that the problem exists across different networks.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

Well I know that the 4S works on my network now, but I had to kill the apps and use Siri to reset it or something.

Genius Bar is next step.

Dumb questions, but can never be too careful:
Do I need to switch the cellular data to off while the smart over is on/closed, so as not to waste all of my data?

Re: Apple iPad Thread

With the iPad 2 at $400 and the new ipod touch priced at $300, where does this leave the iPad mini?

I guess $350 or it's vaporware. I'm currently leaning that it doesn't exist.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

Lol, im still standing by my assertion months ago (and every single year before that) which is the mini just wont happen. What market are they chasing exactly when the N7 is sold at a loss and the HD Kindle Fire probably is too? They already dominate the total tablet market and the important number isnt units shifted but revenue generated.

The fact they brought out a new touch underlines this point - they just wouldnt have these two products side by side unless they are trying to make the touch even more niche (its a nano for people who hate the nano's portability) than it was already or they are going to pull something completely unpredicted.

The argument of where it fits on the price range isnt really necessary, but sure, while we are there a 7" tablet is basically dead on arrival at a $350 price point when Google is putting out a sub $200 hi def quad core beast and even at $350 you are going to be threading the needle between cutting into your profitability as you cannibalise the full size iPad and just straight murdering the touch in a dark alley. Likely doing both.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

I pretty much agree with everything you said. The iPad will move and become a high end product much like the rest of Apple's computer line.

And on the flipside, damn there are going to be a ton of N7 and Kindle Fire's sold for Christmas. Good luck Nintendo...

Re: Apple iPad Thread

I could see Apple selling a 7" model at a price point to destroy the competition and differentiate it by calling the touch a gaming device or iPod and bumping the specs on the 10" to keep from canabalizing sales. Although, I don't think Apple worries about that too much actually because of it's fan base.

Bumping the specs on the 10" would also let them start updating the line before the holiday season instead of after it.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

lol @ apple being afraid of releasing a small tablet in fear that it will dent ipod touch sales. they would gladly have touches extinct. go to page 26-27 of the 10-Q:

http://files.shareholder.com/downloa..._As-Filed_.pdf

Now what makes more sense? pump money into devices that are growing @ 52% YoY, or cautiously manage your product line around a slowly dieing product that makes up a sliver of your sales.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

So then why design a new ipod touch with an even higher price target than the original product?

Also in all of Apple's presentations they always reiterate how important the ipod touch line is for them. e.g. This Springs "New iPad" product introduction. They prominently displayed the ipod touch along with the iPad portfolio.

If Apple does come out with a mini, lol@ it's price point.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

It would make sense to revamp the touch to match the latest phone to reduce manufacturing costs. Pretty much all of the rumors on the iPhone were correct and the same folks are saying there will be a mini so I'm putting it at bette than even money they will release one.
