Re: Apple iPad Thread

I ended up with a 3G iPad and while slow it has come in more handy than I expected. We'll see how much I use it when I get back to the states and don't use it away from home and office so much.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

I went with the Wifi iPad2 and I just tether to my phone when I need a connection and there's no wifi. Mine pretty much never leaves my sight and I've always got a good internet connection when I need it.

If you have standard AT&T iPhone 2gb data plan for $20 then you can change that online to 4gb with tethering for $40 anytime you want and change it back whenever as well

So the months you want to use iPad on 3G, just costs 20 instead of 25 for iPad monthly plan

3G iPad has gps tho which is nice if traveling

Must be different in the states then. As all I have to do is enable my personal hotspot and it just uses my normal tariff at no extra cost.

So you don't pay for the tethering at all now.

Buying the +3g is only good if your going to be using it for traveling then...and is it really worth the extra £100?

I've got a kindle as well and that just connects to the iphone as well and I can download my books that way as well.

Re: Apple iPad Thread

Serious noob question. I have the iPad2 with 3G and have an AT&T $15/month plan. My iPhone is with Sprint and it's an unlimited plan. Is it even possible to tether the two?

You can tether your ipad/kindle/laptop/desktop to your iphone but you can't tether your anything to your ipad.

I've apparently misunderstood what CBorders was saying.

ETA: To clarify what I'm asking: I bought the iPad2 with 3G because I have a farm that we occasionally stay at and there's no wifi there. I got the AT&T service because Sprint didn't offer it for the iPad. About 3 months after I bought it, I got the iPhone when Sprint offered it. I guess what I'm asking is, do I even need the AT&T service if I can somehow use the iPhone as a hot spot?

Re: Apple iPad Thread

You can connect a device to your phone as it has an internet connection and share the connection from the phone.

If you've got a wifi only device you can't connect your phone to it as you wouldn't have a connection to the internet with it.

If there is a wifi available though you'll be able to connect both of them to it.

*edit*

No you don't need it. Just use your iphone as a hot spot.

Couple of other noob questions (and btw, thank you).

1) How do I configure(?) the phone and iPad to do this?

2) Can I still use the phone normally when it's acting as a hot spot?

Re: Apple iPad Thread

Well, I'm not sure how it actually works in the US. I'm assuming it's the exact same.

Basically go to settings.

Tap Personal Hot Spot.

Takes you to this screen:-

Flick on.

On your ipad, search for wifi it'll come up with your phones name. Just type in the password thats in the box.

That's you
