Anybody living without television? Anybody living without television?

We are on month 6 of no cable, and it's really not bad at all. Granted, I bought one of those 30 dollar antennas from best buy and I get about 20-30 channels through that which we rarely watch. We have Netflix and Amazon Prime (we got Prime for the free shipping not for this purpose), as well as HBO Now. I occasionally miss out on live sports but the major events are often on CBS/NBCs/ABCs/Fox anyway.

Overall it's been totally fine and I don't see us signing up for a cable package anytime soon.

Got new TV, and will happily distract myself with it (or the next one) until the day I die. Never gonna get rid of TV again.

I had cousins who were poor and had only basic cable like from an antenna and all ended up smart as **** and impressively well read next to the standard American and 2/3 are educated and moved on to great things. Another thing is that when people are drawn to screens of tvs in any room they were almost immune to the tvs hypnotic effects. It was as if were are programmed to loose ourselves looking at these screens and they just kinda saw them as dull and unfullfilling, as if inanimate objects with no interesting qualities.

Seems like not letting them feast on junk food for the brain is just as important as making sure they don't ingest Mickey Ds everyday and smoke unfiltered cigarettes.
TV-s seem pretty harmless compared to nowadays smartphone generation

There is a way, it was my only hold up on switching from cable to roku + streaming subs.

Answer: NFL game pass + VPN if you're in the USA

Im cancelling our cable after the Rugby World Cup is over and will live off dodgy streams for sport and Netflix plus some other subscriber stream sites

Dont have much time to watch any content these days anyway

But its mainly being done to punish our money sucking provider who has had a monopoly for years and years and barely improved while increasing prices year on year

It will be a sweet day ringing them to cancel

Based on this thread, it seems that almost no one watches TV anymore.

Except for me.

Based on this thread the definition of watching TV has changed but everyone is still watching TV.
