I had a cable modem when I moved in an apartment once. I plugged it in to see what would happen. A cable company screen came up and told me to call them to turn on service. Called up and they instantly turned on my service. The place already had cable TV so this might not always work.
Lol, sorry wasnt trying to steal it. I called TW 3 times today because somebody told me depending on what customer service rep you talk to they can expedite connection. On the third call they said the can send someone out tomorrow so thankfully I won't have to wait.
I like this. Pretty sure they keep call logs and it wasn't that the third person happened to be nice, you just proved the adage that the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Yeah, apartments often just keep the cable on and basically just change the name on the account, so sometimes you can still get some channels before actually signing up.
My old house had a small locked orange box in the front yard that Cox cable used. The owner planted a palm tree to close to it and it got big and crushed open the box. To hook up cable for either me or my neighbors house all you had to do was screw in the connection. I didnt do it cuz I figured it wasnt worth the jail time since all that got you was the basic channels, since you still needed a box to get all the good channels.
At my old apartment it was the same thing, there was this huge panel box outside that the cable guy would just open, jumper a connection, then come in and talk to you like a 5 year old about how the cable box works. I told him he could just leave it and id hook it up since im not a moron and that way he wouldnt be late for his next appointment like he was for this one (not really, but thats what I should have said).
