Minor car accident at the Palms yesetrday with a limo. I was driving into the entrance that starts as 2 lanes. I was in the right lane, behind a taxi who moved into the far right lane when it forked. I moved ahead into the middle lane, edging left to try to get around the taxi. The limo on my left kept moving ahead so I stopped. I believe the limo stopped as well. I looked behind me to see if I could back up and heard collision. When I looked out in front of me the point of contact is the front left of my car and the back rear.



After we park our cars, I look at the damage. There are some small scratches and black streaks on my car front left, just underneath the headlight, but the damage is minimal. The limo has more damage. On the rear back 2 panels below the rear door, there is a sizeable dent and a long set of white streaks (my car is white, limo is black) across them.



I'm not sure who is at fault. I definitely remember coming to a complete stop, but I am not 100% sure that I stayed completely still after that. I was told that the streaks on the limo indicate that he was the one moving and that the insurance should see it that way after reviewing the photos.

The limo looks pretty similar to the picture I found - I saw a sheet of paper that had it priced around $63k. The limo is contracted by the Palms. Palms security and a "safety supervisor" for the limo company came out. They took pictures and I exchanged information with both parties. Upon advice from my friend, I was upfront about not having insurance. Neither party claimed liability for the accident.

Police were not called in. I don't have photos of the damage, as I didn't have a camera on me. I also don't have a copy of the statement I filled out, but it is pretty close to what I've written here, without mentioning anything that would make me look bad.

How much money is this going to cost me? What are the chances that me not having insurance will be used as leverage against me in negotiations? What is my play when talking to the limo company's insurance company? What do I need to take care of? How will this likely play out?

What should I do? Should I have pretended to not speak engrish? Should I take pics of my penis and send them to the insurance company's massage therapists?

I would start by purchasing auto insurance.

Does "no DL" mean you don't have a driver's licence?

Do you actually not have insurance? If the car isn't insured you should let people know before they drink and drive your car around.

Even though you came to a stop during the process, you t-boned the limo and it looks to be your fault even though they were applying the force or whatever. Obviously after you stopped, if they went straight they wouldn't hit you, but they were turning and you sort of drove into their turn.

No insurance, no drivers license, even if it's not your fault you're screwed.

Next time just put a couple ounces of coke on the dashboard so it goes everywhere upon impact.

I recommend getting a driver's license and car insurance too.

You have no DL and no insurance? You were a colossal idiot for driving even without the accident. Regardless of whose fault it was, you are screwed. You are awarded no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

I didn't realize how seriously you meant it when you told me last week in Miami Beach that "Insurance is always a fish play, right Scary?" And I was like, "Well no..."

Next time you have an auto accident with no insurance, just run away from your car and through the casino. Be sure to pass as many security cameras as possible. For good measure, try to leave your expired drivers license in the abandoned car.

Its hard to say since its a company vehicle. Just assume you have to pay for everything. Even if you aren't at fault by default you are the most irresponsible person in the equation from the insurance company's point of view.

Ask for a copy of the quote from the body shop. You getting jacked on the repairs will depend on the body shop and insurance company. Id expect at least mid 4 figures with paint and custom panels.

As long as you can fork over the the full amount when the bill comes you shouldn't have any problems. Im not sure if the insurance company will report anything to DMV, probably depends on policy and state requirements. You didn't leave yourself many options on this one.

This sounds like the kind of thing that will go away on it's own.

"I am not 100% sure that I stayed completely still after that" translates roughly into "I hit the limo" in insurance speak. Add in the fact that you're in the wrong lane with no insurance or DL and I'd be shocked if it wasn't determined that you were at fault.

I looked at the picture without reading the explanation, and my first thought was, "Well, the limo hit you from behind, so it's obviously the limo's fault." Then, I realized the cars were going in the other direction.

I always thought that the people who drove without insurance or license did so because they did not know how to read or write and couldn't fill out the proper forms. I now stand corrected.
