Re: Adam Carolla Podcast Listening Thread

I thought it was funny listening to Bill Simmons try to muster up the courage to curse on a podcast. Aceman is dropping f-bombs left and right and Simmons is so used to having to do a clean podcast that he almost sounds embarrassed to let a s**t fly.

Re: Adam Carolla Podcast Listening Thread

Yeah I've been listening to Carolla for a few weeks now and enjoy it a lot. The Kevin Nealon and Seth MacFarlane ones were terrific. Hated the Bobcat Goldthwait one. Man, Bobcat is one bitter motherfu**er.

Speaking of Bill Simmons, did anyone listen to the podcast with Simmons and Chuck Klosterman where they talked about the death of newspaper and rise of the internet media? One of the most amazing, intelligent, provocative things I've heard in a long time.

Yup, I loved it. Chuck Klosterman is very intelligent and their podcasts are always some of my favourites (It helps that I love reading both of them).

Re: Adam Carolla Podcast Listening Thread

I think the Mike guy called it the other night though. The guests are props just to essentially provide launching off points for Adam Rants. He does not really have much patience for what any of his guests have to say, and is clearly busy formulating his next rant waiting for them to end their sentence.

It is very entertaining, but it would be hard pressed to call these interviews.

Re: Adam Carolla Podcast Listening Thread

Yeah Kev Nealon actually suggested he and Adam do a stand up act where Nealon just yells out topics and Adam rants on them for a good ten minutes.

Re: Adam Carolla Podcast Listening Thread

I love the show, but I didn't like the one with Seth McFarlane. Too much of it seemed like, "Normal people think like THIS, but we think like THIS~!" to me. I found it pretty LOL-tastic how they turned not liking to get up in the morning as a reason why they're better than 'normal' people.

If you think about it, $5k/month is actually pretty cheap. He's doing 5 shows a week which is 20 a month. So that's only $250 per show.

I dunno if he's paying his producer, or if he has any other technicians working for him or if they're accounting for equipment costs but that seems really reasonable.

I don't know the details of his CBS contract, but if most of their costs are in bandwith he should be able to get a sponsor to just take over the bandwith payments (ie; never pay Corolla anything, just pay the web hosting company directly). Except that charging an advertiser $100-$200 an episode would be way underselling the show. And given that it's under the umbrella of his production company he probably doesn't care about investing ~$50K over the rest of the year into the show. That's peanuts compared to startup production costs for anything else (ie; television) and it's a write-off anyway, Jerry.

Once he's able to monetize the show properly, he'll make that $50K back in no time. What's more, if he is the "Jackie Robinson of podcasts" that's huge for his production company - How many other podcasts could he be producing? Yeah, the whole point of podcasting is that anyone can do it, but once he's built a market for himself and established himself as the expert a bunch of real celebrities are going to be willing to let him dip his beak in their show.

Donny does is for free but he pays Mike Cioffi and he has to pay for bandwidth.

The "Jack of all jacks, master of none" bit may have been the hardest I've laughed since the podcast started (it was in the Matt and Dave episode).

And usually he doesn't even wait for that. I lost count of how many times he'll just cut the person off mid-sentence because he's got another rant that he can't contain. It'd be nice if Donny, or someone, would remind them to pick up on some of the topics when he's done. There have been more than a few interesting sounding stories lost along the way in that manner.

Ya, the Matt and Dave episode may be the funniest overall so far.

Also, to whoever said the Jamie Kennedy episode wasn't a riot, it's where he first delves into his plan of sending some jews down to clean up mexico, which is one of my favorite ideas yet. Also I just listened to the Dr. Drew episode again yesterday and it's basically a portal into adam's soul with analysis by Drew so I highly recommend that episode as well.
