The 2017 Two Plus Two Celebrity Death Pool - Who's gonna croak first? The 2017 Two Plus Two Celebrity Death Pool - Who's gonna croak first?

As someone else pointed out, every US President and many foreign leaders are by definition military personnel (Commander in Chief). Since you didn't specifically exclude retired or former military personnel, that means former Presidents too. You also didn't say anything in the OP about dying in the line of duty - you added that later. So I think that means all current and former heads of state with military titles are out, and possibly any other famous people with a military background.

The US President is not military personnel. He is a civilian pure and simple. You can ask yourself a question - does the UCMJ apply to thePresident? That answer is unequivocally no.

hopefully Baghdadi will just get run over by a truck and render this a non issue

Some people just don't understand the spirit of a death pool. Sad!

A terrorist is not military personnel imo. They are just someone dumb enough to engage in a dangerous activity which will cause countries to actively hunt them. Not trying to politard up the thread, only speaking in terms of the contest.

Plenty of us picked people who have dangerous professions or lifestyles. As HoR stated there are plenty of people picked who are considered active military personnel, but their deaths will only count if it occurs away from the front lines of a war. It is going to be impossible to clearly define what that means.

AFAIK Donald Trump is eligible, but as commander in chief he is active military personnel. what if he dies while visiting troops in Afghanistan? Is that considered dying "outside his profession"?

What if instead of being assassinated, someone insults him and he grabs a gun and decides to LeeRoy Jenkins it up in Kabul and is killed in the process?

Military personnel should be either in or out to avoid having to make judgement calls like this.

Btw, IDGAF which way it goes since i personally don't have any on my list but for the sake of clarity we should decide 1 way or another before it becomes an issue.

Also included for clarity's sake.

UCMJ doesn't apply to Baghdadi either.

I don't really disagree with you in the sense that Presidents are elected, they generally are not people with current active duty enrollment at the time they assume office, and most of their job functions are civilian in nature. I'm just pointing out that by Bob's absurdly vague interpretation, you can make more of a case for Presidents as military personnel than you can for the guy he's excluding here. They have a formal title and role within the chain of command of a national military, which is more than you can say for Baghdadi.

This thread disparately needs custer and chop to resolve this nit.

I don't understand why it doesn't count if military personnel die in combat.
01-05-2017 , 09:51 PM
What is al-Baghdadi's military rank and what military duties is he performing?

Easy fix. Let everyone count. Don't be a nit.

My ruling stands ham.

Russian cosmonaut died. Doubt anyone had him

I actually decided not to enter because I had no confidence in Bob's ability to run the thing competently.

Last edited by Minimalist; 01-06-2017 at 11:40 AM. Reason: That, and I was too lazy to do the research required for a good list.

I'm pretty sure iirc bob isn't even in this for the money. So you guys playing for something make your own rules lol

It looks like Ham and I are at an impasse with Bob.

I signed up for the $25 pool. I kindly ask the other contestants of that pool to consider the following options:

a) treat al-Baghdadi as non-military (as he should be)
b) allow me to replace him
c) allow me to withdraw from the pool

Obviously there is d) insist on Bob's ruling to be applied.

Anyway, I need instructions on how to escrow.

Yeah I am also happy to still get in the pool still if participants agree to include or replace
