I picked up a 1+5 despite the negative press. Been just a few days but its the best phone I've ever had. It blows my old galaxy s6 away in speed (obviously), front-facing fingerprint detector is lightning fast, USB-C, no bloat/more or less stock android, $300 less than other "flagships". Only downside is relative large top and bottom bezels I guess, compared to the galaxy s8.

Bought a mibox. Good android tv box.
Amazon get your **** together and release a primevideo app for regular Android tv already.

Yea Amazon's strategy of not being compatible with anything (apps on limited devices, not even selling chromecasts on Amazon, etc.) in this way is really ****ing annoying, not to mention probably hurting themselves in the process.

Can't watch it on my chromecast, can't watch it through Comcast apps. Only choice is through my ps4 which I can just barely stand only for the best of shows and can only do it in the living room.

(yea you can always open a laptop and cast it through a chrome tab, but that's WOAT)

ETA: lol this is such a 1st world problem it cracks me up when I step back and look at it that way. but still. come on.

I just found out that you can do split screen on 7.0+ by holding the recent apps button

Any suggestions on how to best salvage an old Verizon Note 4? Would love to blow everything away and put on a custom OS (I think they figured out how to unlock to bootloader eventually?) but it's such an old phone I don't know what I'd put on it.

DarkOne, 'bout time - although I find that pretty useless (I've never used it). Double tapping the square button to flip between recent apps, however, is pure gold.

Bixby, I'd suggest 1) google around and understand basic terminology about the procedure (bootloaders, recovery mode, etc.) so you can understand #2 better, and 2) go to the forums here: https://www.xda-developers.com/ search for your phone (your EXACT phone) and find a well-reviewed lightweight ROM with detailed instructions you can follow (note: you'll need root first).

I've got a note 4, wiped it entirely and rooted and just use it in a VR headset.

Hey y'all, what's the best camera on an android phone right now? Need it for business. I've seen mixed reviews on the S8+, and the price on the S7 is so much more attractive. Is there something just flat out known for the photo quality?

The Pixel got the highest score on some irrelevant metric thingy. Pics seems good to me but all pics on all phones in the past 2 years look the same to me. Glad I could help.

Uhoh. I just bought a Droid Turbo 2 but haven't used it yet. What was the issue? Specs seem awesome (for $130 phone).

I ordered a glass screen protector because people say the plastic scratches easy.

Samsung plebes ITT with your gross bloated OS skins.

Every time I pick up my brother's S7 I wanna vomit from all the lag compared to the Pixel.

but honestly, using an s7 with an material theme & nova launcher with fast switch settings plus setting animation & transition scale to 0.5x makes for an extremely fluent experience (especially for an 1.5 year old device). yes, it differs slightly from stock experience, but many of the added features are helpful and missing from stock. e.g. double clicking the overview button to switch between the last two apps. yes, it's now on stock, but it took a few years.
and there's less bloat than before (combined with freezing / hiding useless apps). i am not sure how much carrier **** gets installed in the US, that's never a problem in switzerland.

i have not used a pixel enough for a real comparison, but the few times i had it in my hand, it felt very similar in regards to lag / reaction speed in general.

Yea they've definitely gotten loads better. I was just honestly surprised that I could even notice the lag with the S7, I sort of assumed they would've gotten it smooth as butter by now.

What else does Samsung add that you find useful besides your one example that is currently shared with stock?

BTW back button being on the wrong side is a deal breaker for me already, so there's no convincing here, just curious.

My S7E is smooth as butter, but it's a UK SIM-free Exynos version so maybe quite different from a US model.

One thing I love about it is the built in caller-id thing that tells you if unknown number is probably a scammer/telemarketer. No idea what is stock and what is not really though without a recent stock phone to compare.

I also liked their transfer utility that copied everything from old phone Nexus 4, but I guess most manufacturers have similar?

I've had three different turbo 2s. Charge port went bad in the first in a month. Wireless charging has never worked for any of the three correctly. Battery life is great for a month or so but then it turns quickly. I use my phone a lot and the last two I've had I have to charge by 1-2pm starting about a month or so after I got it.

The plastic scratches on ANYTHING. You can replace the plastic but it's like $40. **** that. Good call on the protector.

Overall I've always felt that the phone is just "slow" something seems off. Idk maybe it's just me and the way I use phones, but I've never had anywhere near the amount of problems that I've had with my turbo 2.

I'll also add that I paid full price. (lol me) for 130? It's worth it. It does what it's supposed to do.

Thanks for the comments. So far, the phone seems okay but we'll see.

In my limited experience, the wireless charging seems the same as the Droid Turbo 1. Except that the charging coil is more centrally located on the phone so it charges fine sitting right in the middle of the charger.

Yea my pixel tells me scam likely or definitely scam or whatever. I think it might be a carrier thing tbh, not sure though.

I'd +1 this, especially if you can get it off eBay virtually new for $225ish.

Seen many YouTubers say the V20 is their media go to phone, recording their shows in great quality.

From what I have seen and done with my V20 the media quality is very good.

s8 has on screen buttons, so you can simply switch layout in menu. for older models there's a root free app to change it. personally, i got used to it after a few days.

https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS7/co...f_my_favorite/ lists a lot of distinguishing features. i cannot tell you if they're all still not available on stock.

some of it is of course useless for me personally, but imho some of the better ones:
- double click to launch camera
- power saving mode + ultra power saving mode.
- private mode to hide private documents / pics / videos system wide
- enhanced screen cap: allows you to capture an entire page, not just what's on the screen, by scrolling and stitching each screen into one long screen cap.
- samsung cloud backup: "It's like backing up and restoring your iPhone with iTunes minus the pain of iTunes." (<-- have never restored my phone, cannot say how well it works)
- there's a search box to search through all your settings. that's quite handy sometimes.

- power saving mode + ultra power saving mode. all phones (including stock), have a power saving mode, I never ever used ultra back when I had the WOAT S5
- private mode to hide private documents / pics / videos system wide Seems very useless by itself, and even more useless if you know how to "pin" an app the one time per year you may be in this situation
- enhanced screen cap: allows you to capture an entire page, not just what's on the screen, by scrolling and stitching each screen into one long screen cap. I can't imagine why this would EVER be useful...
- samsung cloud backup: "It's like backing up and restoring your iPhone with iTunes minus the pain of iTunes." (<-- have never restored my phone, cannot say how well it works) There's a regular Android backup that seems fine. I've switched phones a ton and usually after booting up google just downloads all the apps I had on my last phone. If there's something else going on,
then that might be a great feature for people, although I don't think I personally need it.

- there's a search box to search through all your settings. that's quite handy sometimes. on stock too
Obviously it's a personal decision between extras vs performance. To me, the extras are useless and performance is noticeable. But I don't deny that there are others that would say the exact opposite.

This is the beauty of Android. There are like... different phones.
