Figured I'd try this question here before asking the larger reddit community... I started having battery issues with my Nexus 6P at night a few days ago (I don't charge my phone at night usually, but more at random when I find it's convenient since I have chargers everywhere).

Usually I'd lose 1-4% over the course of the night, but I've started to lose 20% consistently. To get the cleanest data possible, last night I went full charge -> unplug & go to sleep. Here's the data:

So it's obviously that mediaserver thing right, anyone know what it is?

Things that I can remember changing with my phone as of late...

* System update - Feb ~13th or so, I think that's too early to be the culprit
* Installed a new game - timing might be exact on this guy...
* Installed Tasker - I think the battery issue started happening before this

Just not sure why the new game would cause this. I'll probably uninstall it now though as a first test.

Thanks in advance.

For phones not yet announced but coming in the next few months there is the moto g and a new oneplus, presumably the 3. I read somewhere that blackberry is going to have a follow up to the priv soon too.

So generally not a huge amount coming up that will be better than the current flagships. Next big headline release is presumably the next Note and moto x but we are talking way down the line end of q3 start of q4. Then some kind of nexus in q4.

It's really simple but it has proven to be one of the most useful features on the Turbo.
Just wondering if that's a standard feature on all newer Android based phones, or just Motorola.
I don't think even modern Motorola devices have this any more.

saw7988,
can you uninstall or disable Mediaserver? then leave your fully charged phone unplugged overnight and see how the battery consumption was. If it doesnt drain like it has been, then download a different app to play your media files.

Also does the Nexus 6p have a SD card that you can dismount? Maybe just removing will help pinpoint the issue. (If that fixes your problem likely a corrupt file on your card?)

fwiw, doing a quick google search, the game could definitely be causing your problems. seems like there are some games that just do not play nice with Mediaserver.

You're absolutely right - I misread that post initially. I created a profile to listen for that intent and attached a task to flash that variable. Then I turned on the hotspot and it flashed 12, then 13. Cool.

Almost all the flagships for the next generation were just announced this week, some with release dates.
picked up an HTC 62somethign at walmart for 119, works for now, may/will return it(13 day policy), but yes, my hope was i could wait out the new releases and see how that affects price, maybe on the G4. or even one of the nexus models.
Not a Samsung fan want something that will utilize the Tmo LTE band 7 or 12 whatever that is and take great pictures and have greaat battery life.
The HTC software is a bit annoying, realy leaning back to a nexus device since im used to the GUI and such.
and chance those prices will fall? $ isn't and issue just want the best price vacillating between the 5x and 6p

You most likely have a wakelock. Download wakelock detector or google wakelock. I'd uninstall the game first just to rule out a variable.

I know the basics - cost, limited number of compatible phones, etc.
Currently have an invite in my inbox and no idea if/when it expires.
Is it worth buying a new phone for if you don't spend extensive time outside the US? Currently have a Droid Turbo, which I love (the crazy battery life + rapid charge is simply amazing) and would be switching to the 6P. The issue is that the phone would cost full price and Id only be saving roughly $20/mo for an equivalent data plan.
I love it. The phone will pay for itself in no time. I'm saving $60/month(had VZW for ~20 years) with no noticeable drop off in service. GOOGLE PWNS.

In usa you have so many option for great inexpensive used phones.
in france they sell more expensive than if you buy brand new and hunt a bit for good prices

How much data do you guys use? I have a 5GB plan with rollover on AT&T for $82/mo and I use 4-4.5GB on average. So my payback period would be like 30 months with a 6P.

I've averaged 600 mb/mo past 4 months.

Always on WiFi at home/work, and often connected to hotspots from my isp when out and about.

I use ~a GB/month, at most. My new payment is $30 a month for 1 GB + unlimited talk and text. Each additional GB is $10 and you prepay. They even credit you for any unused data.

any good volume maximisers (if such a thing exists)

i have a lenovo s8-50f which the sound is good on but when working out in garage sound seems very low , is there such an app that will boost it even more than the built in dolby auido app, i tried one from the play store but literally no difference in output loudness.

just asking in case there was one

probably end up buying a cheap bluetooth speaker.

I'm anywhere between 500-800 mb/mo. Always on wifi at work and home. Whenever I'm out if it doesn't autoconnect to something I'll ask for the wifi password. My bill used to be ~$100/mo on Verizon and now I'm down to ~$62, and that includes paying 24 months of installments for the 6P and $5/mo for their insurance plan.

My cable was out during a bad windstorm a week ago, used 4g to stream the bulls game. 3.8gigs for 2.5 hrs of game.

That's very interesting. How much are taxes and fees per month on Fi? If I could get my data usage down to 4GB/mo I'm essentially breaking even but I get a 6P. Guess its kind of a risk though bc service could be **** in my area.

If you're using that amount of data, you're probably just not being very diligent about using WiFi whenever possible.

When I had unlimited data on my old ATT plan, I was between 2-3gb/mo, and now I'm using ~20% of that just by using WiFi/hotspots more, and my phone usage hasn't changed at all.

Thanks for the info on Fi.
Do you get 4g? For some reason I was under the impression that only 3g was available on Fi, but maybe that was only outside the US?

On a related topic, how is the battery life on the 6P? That's the one thing I don't want to give up if I have to get rid of my Turbo. Also does the 6P use the same kind of "turbo" quick charger as Droid Turbo?

I get 4G. Also, the battery has been great on my 5X.

Here's a screenshot of my bill from last month. I'm sure taxes etc varies based on where you live.

For the other poster, yes Fi is absolutely on 4g. The unique thing about Fi is that it operates using both T-Mobile's network and Sprint's network, based on whichever one is getting the best signal at the time.
