Good job on the Academy nominating Tree of Life for Cinematography, and Rango for Animated Film. The latter is probably the best pure animation of any movie I've ever seen in my life. Not super crazy about the movie itself, but animation-wise it was eye-popping. And Tree of Life is just insanely gorgeous to look at no matter what you think of its pretentious storytelling.

List is ok.
Biggest failure is not nominating Michael Fassbender for best actor.
Every year I ask myself, "why even care about the Oscar's anymore".

Side note: "The Descendants" screenplay is co-written by Jim Rash, who plays Dean Pelton on "Community".

I'm really glad to see Midnight in Paris get a nod, and felt Ides of March really deserved to be included in the Best Picture list. Also pretty nice to see a comedy get nominated for best screenplay and supporting.

Shailene Woodley was fantastic as the older daughter in the Descendants. Her performance was the one thing I took away from that movie. It's hard for me to believe the performances of each of those nominees was better than hers.

J. Edgar got pretty much nothing as I thought it would. Had potential, but ridiculously boring.

Definitely would like to see rango win best animated picture

They really need to go back to five Best Pic nominees. Extremely Loud is not deserving IMO.

I sound like a broken record, but 2011 was the worst year for movies I can remember my entire life.

Academy will probably give the lifetime achievement oscar to Captain Von Trapp. Seems all the praise is behind The Artist at this point.

For me it's the best in at least 8 years if not 9. Scott Tobias of the AV Club said it's the best since he's been a professional film critic (14 years).

2011 was amazing. If anyone says it was a bad year for movies, then they aren't watching the right movies.

Cotton -- have you seen Shame? Drive? Beginners? We Need to Talk About Kevin? 13 Assassins? Certified Copy? Margaret? Meek's Cutoff? A Separation? Melancholia? Martha Marcy May Marlene? Weekend?

Let me guess: no.

i dont think it was a great year for mainstream movie goers , alot of these are great movies , but are a tough watch for casual moviegoers . i dont think i would ever recommend certified copy to any of my friends eventhough it was one of those movies that completely blew my mind .
