I mean there are lots of places I've walked where I would have had a ratio of more like 30-40/hour, and I'm a guy. Granted I don't know much about NYC, but 108 in 10 is certainly not high compared to a lot of the world.

I live in NY. I travel a lot within the five boroughs for work. Do plenty of walking in three of the five boroughs. I'm a 32-year old guy in the sales and marketing industry.

If I walked for ten hours straight and filmed it, I'd put up a number considerably higher than what this woman did. The comments wouldn't be of a sexual nature, but I'd get plenty of requests for money, asked for freebies of company product (food and beverage business, often have samples in the car or with me) or random stuff similar to the guy in the video who preaches "God bless you" etc. There's also the random snide comment from minorities about my being white, "can you hook me up with a job bro" "yo is your company hiring" etc.

It's unfortunate that men out on the street do this type of thing, and I feel for this woman, but it's not the world's most offensive thing as it's being made out to be. A lot of the comments shown are innocuous.

notice how they opt for "in new york city" rather than "in harlem", which could be said as that's where most of the shown comments occur.

plus, the guy who follows her for five minutes is likely mentally ill in some way, judging by his disheveled appearance. the reason for his leering and following is not a misogynist culture or social norms, it is his unwillingness/inability to grasp and follow social norms (which dictate that his behavior is unacceptable).

The guy that walked next to her for "5 minutes" was the only thing that was really bad. And that was really, really bad. But I'm pretty all the awareness in the world ain't stopping that dude. He might not even have a device to see the video to begin with. The rest of the comments were of a "who gives a ****!" nature.

I would like to see this same video but done with a black woman. That could be the scariest or funniest video in quite some time.

if you havent experienced people talking to you when you want them to leave then you simply have never been in a city. walking in chicago the same types of people talk to me too except instead of "hey baby" or "damn girl" is "hey playa" or "hold up a sec dog"
