Crushing online sit n gos Review Part 1
I bought this book today and i decided to start reading immediately.I am a winning in stts 9-10 man in pokerstars, full tilt and ongame. So far i read until all the chapter 3 and i have left chapter 4 for tomorrow even though i take a fast look
I have to mention that this is the most well-writen book about sngs i ever read so far.Simple and the explanations about each situation is amazing. The author gives you to understand fully why you make a move and he proves it by maths
-Chapter 1 Very basic stuff that every sng book must have, equity, odds etc.The only section i disagree is with hud because it is very simple.Vpip/pfr is a must have but it is like you have no hud later in the game if you multitable. Moreover when he suggest a more complicated hud and he suggest cbet/fold to cbet i laughed because this is garbage for sngs.Fold to cbet will only have useless space in hud
-Chapter 2 Low blind lvl Again this is very basic stuff suggesting tight early game. This is very good until 7$ games even 15$ if you table select but leaving value in the table.I really like the analysis in bvb situation which i have a leak obviously.I checked it with my hud and i am bleeding money from sb and you were the reason to check it.Thank you.Post flop play is...bad.This section needs an improvement because poker isnt only maths but common sense
-Chapter 3 Mid-lvl Amazing stuff.Really excellent work.Even though i am not perfect player i felt so embarassed with some things i dont do mostly because i am a pussy.I call wide for example a 5 bbs stack even though i should call wider but now i can safely sure that i am bleeding some money there too because i am a pussy. And you are right small mistakes are those which costs much in the long run<-----This is the most important thing a grinder MUST know.I really like your analysis, didnt got tired and it was very amuzing. You analyzed many spots very good.Shove/call/resteals<----EXCELLENT WORK but no r/f r/c spots which has ton value in sngs.I was really dissapointed when you dont go furter in 5 handed spots and these are only for 6 handed.5 handed is a bit different and i would like to see 5 pages for this too
If a player asked me which is the best invest for a sng player i would say that.It is fundamental stuff but with this book you built extremely stong fundamentals. You will not be a crusher but this book will plug you many leaks for sure
The other review tomorrow

Hey GTL,
Thanks for starting a honest review. Feedback like this certainly helps me to identify areas that are worth addressing in the book. The most recent version v2-1 is already significantly expanded over the initial offering and adds material in the areas that were seen as most obviously missing by 2+2. I'll take a look at adding the new material you suggested in the next release.
I am currently rolling out v2-1 to the people who purchased but it is a bit of a slow process since it involves creating an individual version for each person. I want to make sure you have that version before you review the HU section. Please PM me if you have v1-2.

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
Crushing online sit n gos Review Part 2
Today i read the 4th and last chapter of this ebook. This chapter advice how to play high blind level including pot odds plays. The 4th chapter of the book is as good as the 3rd. It is trully a diamond among other books.Zerosum writes about near all stuff that a player need to know about high blind 4 handed. He writes about bvb dynamics and adjustments you should make against good players and how pot odds affects our play.I already knew those because these things are a must for a sng player but i really like how well written are these things. Most valuable lesson in this part is how to calculate when you must take -ev lines in order to preserve your fold equity
I didnt read the heads up part because i have my own style that i am happy with but as i saw he writes about every player you will face and how you counter his style. Really good stuff and well worked. Moreover he analyses the structure of a tournament and why we should play each way in each face. Why tight early, why aggressive in 5 handed, why change again strategy in 3 handed etc
He does very good job analyzing the bubble of sngs which is the most important part in a sng.Decisions costs in this face and Zero does very good job analyzing the bubble
The only thing it was very and i mean VERY dissapointing is the 5 handed play.He only writes 4-5 senteces of how we should play in 5 handed but he doesnt go in depth at all.Playing 5 handed correctly is more important than bubble because if you dont know to play this stage properly, you will be easy target in bubble and you will have to play very passively.I would like to see an analyze like he did in 6 handed for 5 handed
I will watch the videos and write the 3rd and final part of my review soon

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
Hey GTL,
In the way I teach SNG's I don't significantly deviate the way you should handle mid blinds between 7,6, and 5 handed. Although there is probably some fine tuning you can do 5 handed, the pivot points for mid blinds should work pretty much up until the bubble as long as you are using correct effective stacks and positions based on 5 handed.
However, if you find that they need significant adjustment, start to work out how to adjust them on the fly as you are playing. I have not seen that they change too much.
Good Luck,
zero

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
Got my updated copy today looking forward to spending some time with it. I will post a update to my review soon. Greg's customer service has been nothing short of outstanding for me. I know these threads are about the content of the book but someone considering the book would also be interested in that aspect.
I also own Apple computers and have had no issues with the material running snowy video's or PDF. I have not tried the book or video's on my Lion computer but don't think there would be any issues with running the material on Lion.

The new move to DRM free versions should allow anyone to be able to purchase the book. However the change over is not complete for the videos yet.
I appreciate the comment on customer service and am very curious to see how you feel about the new material on heads up play? This is one area the people were critical of in the beginning but I feel that this is a really good section of the book now. I added about 30 pages on this topic.

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
Hello there!, i am a cash reg but lately i started playing micro level 6 max hyper turbo sngs because i really enjoy playing them, how good is this book for situations when everybody has 10bbs or less.
What i am really looking for is a good foundation for my sng play which is right now 100% amateur as i just started playing them without reading anything, just using fish common sense; but geared especially to these hyper turbo kind of games, especially the satellites ones in which 2 players get entry.

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
This book is geared toward standard 9 to 10 player regular speed format. That said one of its strengths is teaching you a decent ICM system for shoving four and five handed on or near the bubble in that format.
So playing 3 and 4 handed in a hyper format is something that studying this material in my opinion will help you. Obviously you have to be smart enough to realize how the material applies to the faster format.
Players will be playing a lot looser laggy style is well so a few adjustments will have to be made.
But if someone came to me and said they wanted to learn how to be a better SNG player this is one of the 1st places I would send them.

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
to clarify my above post there is nothing in the material that covers 6 Max hyper but that doesn't mean the material wouldn't be valuable

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
Thanks a lot for the explanation, i saw in another thread you were recommending it very throughly and it got my attention, i guess i should try to improve on my own with sngwiz and using the tipical ranges people from my level are using
At least now i have the idea behind pivot points.

Playing around with sng wizard is one of the most valuable things a sng player can do.
Turbo's are not hard to master if you can handle the swings and push well on the bubble.
Not any books I am aware of in the format accept Phil Shaw's basic uninspiring effort. A few training sites have some decent material if your willing to invest. Good luck.

Re: zerosum79 crushing online sit n gos
I've gotten three basic questions about the book related to other formats.
How well does this book cover...
A) 6-9max hypers
B) MTT SNG
C) DoN material
To me the basic book material is suitable for learning the necessary concepts covering A/B but there is a lot of work to do if you want to adjust for these formats.
Certain concepts become much more important in the MTT SNG's such as chip utility/building a big stack early, using SNG wizard in cEV mode to determine proper pivots when far away from the bubble etc.
Other concepts such as calling getting pot odds, playing a very short stack, min raising/not all in shoving with a 10BB stack, all become very important in the hypers.
These concepts are all covered in the book but not in the way that directly relates them to important situations you will face constantly in these alternate game formats, or that emphasizes their relative importance in each different format. A studious player would eventually likely figure out these adjustments but HB is right that there is currently not a book on the market that adequately covers these formats in depth. I hope to rectify that situation soon but just like with COS I move like a snail on projects like this.
zero
PS. The one format that I feel the book does not relate to well is DoN. DoN's have such situationaly dependent ICM situations that I have never been comfortable analyzing them. I do not recommend this book for anyone specifically interested in DoN's.
