Why do study groups come here to die? Why do study groups come here to die?

It seems like although many book study groups have started here, most if not all seem to fizzle out. A new book comes out, there's a lot of discussion about it, there's discussion about whether to have all of the study in one thread or split up into several (by week, by chapter or by whatever), things get going in earnest, dozens and dozens of poasts get poasted for a few weeks, and then . . . nothing. Four or five chapters get dissected in great detail, but discussion of the other 15 chapters never happens.

Hopefully planting a seed in a few minds here:
Harrington's 6-max cash book should be released in the not too distant future. Let's try to have a thorough study of it.

Thoughts on study groups in general and/or how to plan in advance for Action Dan's next book?

Probably because there is no real content in most books. A few years ago most of the contect was much more new.

Most books are bought and not read, including poker books. In this case, the text tends to be technical and hard to read. So people give up.

I wonder how many people actually finished Theory of Poker.

OP--

It's way easier to say you're going to study something than to study something.

The first responder was also on to something, though it's only secondarily important for explaining the phenomenon--there just isn't a whole lot to a lot of what's in print.

All my best,

its pretty tough for some people to verbalise what they've read/learned. i read theory of poker and loved it - but all the concepts were new to me. i could tell you why i loved the book but wouldn't have the smarts to pick it apart analytically

Life is like that, OP. People get going into something, then they move on to something else, repeat. That's just how it works.
