Spade Re: Whats the best Poker Book?

heres my suggestions:

1) Getting Started in Hold'em by Ed Miller- Pretty basic stuff, but a great intro to poker theory

2) Theory of Poker by Sklansky- more indepth hold'em theory

Then it depends on what you want to go into

Limit:
Small stakes Hold'em by Miller, Sklansky, and Malmuth

No Limit:
No Limit Hold'em: Theory and Practice by Sklansky and Miller
Professional No-Limit Hold'em: Volume one by Flynn, Metha, and Miller
Harighton on Cash(havn't read it yet, but hear good things)

Tournements:
Harrington on Hold'em Volume 1 and 2 by Harrington
Tournament Poker for advanced Players by Sklansky
Sit 'n Go Strategy by Mosthman

Live games:
Caro's Book of Poker tells by Caro-a little outdated I think, a lot of draw and 7 card stud tells, and some tells specificly deal with smokers, but still a good read
Read 'em and Reap, by Navarou(havn't read it, heard decent things things)

Insperational: (not strategy, but really got me back into poker and playing my A-game when i wasn't feeling that into it)
Big Deal by Holden
One of a kind by Dalla and Alson

Ok, so those are my suggestions, hope they help

Anyone have any suggestions for good Pot Limit Omaha, or Stud books.

Re: Whats the best Poker Book?

um for 6max limit winning in tough holdem games by stoxtrader and whatever the shorthanded book by lawrence mak and terry borer is called are both really good. stox's book is much more technical and includes a really excellent discussion of blind defense and postflop HU lines while borer and mak's book is a bit more basic but includes some really invaluable stuff on the mechanics of playing online, bankroll management, variance, tilt control, etc.

of course the best poker book is elements of poker by tommy angelo, bar none.

I have found that Alan Schoonmakers books (worst poker enemy, Best poker friend, and his newest, Poker winners are different) have helped me significantly. I wish i would of found thembefore i steamed off almost everything.

Re: Whats the best Poker Book?

I purchased TOP a couple of year ago but didn't really follow the book well. Maybe because I was new to the game and the book gave examples from games other than Holdem. That just threw me for a loop at the time. The book was a recommendation from someone that introduced me to poker. I think that I'm going to go back and read it all the way through since everyone says so many great things about the book.

BTW I'm going to purchase SSHM as well since I have great things about it too...
