well id like to, but first it'd be enough for me to improve a whole lot

i mainly play sit'n gos, its running ok, but id still want to be way better, and i didnt read any books yet

can you recommend me any?

Since it's your very first book I'd go with Harrington on Hold'em Volume 1:

After that Volume 2, and then there's a sit n' go book by Collin Moshman. That will get you off to a pretty good start.

Just out of curiousity, what made you suddenly decide you want to be a professional poker player? Does it still look that easy?

well its fun, and ive made some money with it already

harrington is good. i would recommend no limit theory and practice, a 2+2 book. it's a book i think written for an intermediate to advanced player, and if you aren't that then harrningtton is good.

getting started in holdem might be a bit redundant but there is probably information that will be novel if you haven't officially studied any theory.

collin moshmans sit n go strategy guide is an obvious must read if you are primarily playing sit n goes.

however, if you seriously want to be able to make a living off poker you should really learn both cash and tournament style and see which you take to better.

over all the best books i've read for poker

small stakes hold'em (its for limit, mostly applies now to live, loose limit games.)
no limit theory and practice (this book by far did the most good for me)
heads up no limit (also by moshman, this is a new book and it is very specific)
tournament poker for advanced players (also 2+2, i think sklanksy primarily wrote it, a must read for a tournament player)

You should also read a book that explains variance really well before you go pro.

Depends on what game are u playing but Honeslty, i think Winning in tough hold'em games is the better because you can learn a lot of concept you can use in limit & no limit.

First, before specializing in tournament poker with the Harrington books, I would recommend solid foundation books like The Theory of Poker, this is a must read (IMHO). Have a read more than 12 books so far and I am still not ready for the Harrington Books b/c they are so well written that when I read them, I want to make sure I grasp the nuances outlined. After the Theory of poker I would move to Super System, the section on Hold-em is very exhaustive and will teach you how to approach the game from an aggressive perspective.

I have divided my learning into 4 categories 1) Mechanic, which is everything that teach you how to play the game from a strategic perspective, rules, hands selection, position, leverage, betting, hand reading etc
2) Mathematic, which as to do with odds, probabilities, implied odds, pot odds calculation, statistics, this is very important to learn the basic as soon as possible, you will notice an improvement to your game when you have reach that level.
3) Psychology, you must read about body language, tells, tilt, type of games (Loose passive, loose aggressive etc...) You should master the first 2 categories before reading this one because in order to decipher a tell you have to understand what the other player is trying to sell and you will only be able to do so through a solid base in poker.
4) Game selection, bankroll management, the financial aspect of playing poker for a living.


It is, in my opinion impossible to make it without having a solid grasp on these 4 categories, some player will be stronger on math while others strong on psychology and some on hand reading but every pros masters these 4 categories.

After that you will need to specialize, limit VS no limits, cash vs tourney, online vs casino etc... there are books covering every espect of the game. At some point you will come to realize that some authors are better than others and some books are a must read. In the must read category here are a few example:

Theory of Poker
Super System 2
Hold'em for Advanced Player
Caro Book of Tells
Harrington on poker 1&2 for tournament
Texas Hold'em Odds and Probabilities (not the best poker math book but still and great place to start)

I am afraid that TOP is more advanced than most poker books. However, I still suggest having a look at it before reading other poker books. Just in case we have some genius out there (lol), not me though.

If you want to make a living off poker then learn to play things other than sngs.
