FWIW, I do not have the foreword from Ben yet and don't plan to count my chickens before they hatch. But if all goes well he should be writing the foreword, and at the very least I was fortunate enough to get to discuss a good deal of theory with him while working on the project.

Two to three months is my best guess. Part of why it takes so long is that once finished, we sent the manuscript to an index builder and that can easily be a month to get it completed.

This sounds so awesome, haven't been this excited about a poker book for years!

It starts up with calculating Pot Odds then dives into 3 / 4 / 5 betting? Why did this happen?

With that said, the book likes like it'll be awesome.

I still don't get what NLHE is applied to...

Yeah, that's one of a couple problems with the title. Could improve/correct it by making it Applications of No-Limit Hold 'em Theory; A Guide to Understanding Theoretically Sound Poker. No reason to have two errors in the title of what could be a great book.

Since the title is "Applications of No-Limit Hold 'em," it's referring to the fact that their are many different theoretical concepts which must be applied to the game. Put differently, the word "applications" is plural since many different applications exist. It's not saying NLHE itself is applied to something, as would be the case if the title were "The Application of No-Limit Hold 'em."

It's a small difference, and I cansee how it can be confusing, but I think it's correct as is and at the very least gets the point across for what you can expect to see in the book.

I'm no wordsmith, but I had a title and subtitle pretty close to what you have recommended. The problems were as follows:

1. While it looks short now, it actually gets pretty long and cluttered on the cover of a book.

2. I think it may not be grammatically correct as is, as it maybe should be "The application of No-Limit Hold 'em Theory" since now we're talking about applying the theory itself.

Again, this isn't my area of expertise, so it's possible I'm wrong and that's the whole reason why I trust Mason and 2+2's judgement.

I'm not convinced, but you're the native speaker I suppose. Anyway, the important stuff is the contents.

There's a lot of stuff in between pot odds and 3/4/5 betting. All of Part One is between it.

This book was particularly difficult to write because it's tough to discuss specific concepts with hand examples before all concepts have been introduced. In other words, if I discuss river play last, I get to use all the theory we've previously discussed when analyzing a river situation. But if I discuss river play first, I have to pick my words very carefully or ignore certain aspects of the hand because those concepts haven't yet been addressed.

One possibility would be to explain all the theory concepts first and not discuss situations street by street, but examples are critical for understanding theoretical concepts. I think we did a great job of using examples consistently throughout the book, which makes it both easier and more enjoyable to read. So this required us to start somewhere first, and ultimately I thought pre-flop was best since this way ranges wouldn't appear to come from out of nowhere (as they would if we started with river play first).

This method also prevents the reader from becoming overwhelmed, which is something that's pretty easy to do if concepts are discussed too quickly without examples. A lot of good but not great players play the way they do because their strategy is so much easier to implement than a more complex (but better) strategy, so it's important for the book to slowly guide the reader rather than throw too much difficult content at him (or her!) at once.

Lastly, Part 16 is quite long with many detailed hand examples. And as viewers who watch my videos from CardRunners know, when I say "detailed" I mean detailed. So, at this point all theory from the book is fair game and I discuss what I think each player should do with their entire range at every point in the hand. This isn't just where I show a few examples of where to apply concepts from earlier, as that already happened when the concept was first being introduced. Thus a large portion of the book will be implementing all the theory previously discussed at once rather than just a single isolated concept.

in all honesty, why would you ever want to publish a book that can easily kill poker? Isn't poker hard enough already?

I don't even think it's possible for a book which can do this to exist (and if it is possible, it's almost certainly not my book and is a lot longer than 500 pages).

One of the reasons I'm really excited about this project is I think it will put statements like this to rest. The idea that it's possible to publish information that can kill the games implies (to me at least) there are all these secrets and once people know them the games will be dead, but that's not how things actually work. Since online poker is so new, I think it’s best to illustrate this point with a clearer example.

I'm studying for the MCAT right now (Medical College Admission Test), and all the information to do well on the test is available to everyone. Most of it is at a really low cost (honestly, probably the BEST stuff is actually low cost, around $100 total if you buy new) despite the fact that many companies charge thousands of dollars for test prep. People falsely assume companies that charge more are better and have "test taking strategies” which supposedly allow you to do well on the physics section without actually knowing physics.

Despite all that information being available, the average score is still a 25 out of 45. The people who are smarter and work harder than average will do better than average. Yet most people don't do very well, and most don't get into medical school. Simply having access to information doesn't make you awesome at taking the MCAT (in other words, you won't suddenly know physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology very well), just like having access to a textbook doesn't mean you ace the class.

This is how it works for any competitive game or class. Getting good takes a lot of hard work. This book will just be one of the many tools available to help you get better, just like Flopzilla/Cardrunners EV/all other good books and videos.

idea of the price ?

Is the chapter on making villain indifferent to calling the river going to discuss it from a street by street range construction perspective?

The book is designed to discuss pre-flop, then flop, then turn, then river play so you can get comfortable with how the ranges look. So by the time we discuss river spots you'll be pretty comfortable with what the ranges look like.
