ChickenNuts nailed it - I totally agree. I have both and although I use my table out of convenience (i.e. easy access online, etc..), it is much easier to read on Kindle paperwhite.
Kindle and Kobo are fairly comparable with some distinct differences:
Kobo allows borrowing books from library whereas Kindle does not
Kobo uses more standard formats which allow for more flexibility when purchasing books from other sources
Kindle only uses Amazon so only books purchased on Amazon can be used on Kindle (though it is not really an issue with most)
Kindle seems to have a more integrated system
Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with either a Kobo or Kindle - both are great devices and will serve your purpose well.
