One of my friends told me that I shouldn't read poker books because everyone read the same thing and I will be like one of them if I read it.
So instead you would rather be like the fish who never read poker books?

It is debatable if you have to know what everyone else knows. In contrast, it is much better to know something that everyone else doesn't know. This basically means that you get diminishing returns from published information.

I agree with your comments as you move up in stakes, but in 1/2 and 2/5 NL live cash games, the material in the better poker books IS something that the majority of players don't understand, or care about. Take the OP for example: he considers himself a semi-pro, but has never read a poker book. He is certainly not in the minority.
