For Richer, For Poorer: A Love Affair With Poker, by Vicky Coren

Sounds interesting:

I said I had written a tell-all book about my life in the game and, once it was published (this week), I would be leaving for South America in a canoe.

It was very important, in writing my poker memoir, to make it a properly honest account. It's all very well to include the glamorous locations, funny stories and starry celebrity matches (which I have), but you can't tell the truth about poker unless you include the dark side, the losses, the heartbreak and pain. I've read too many glossy ghost-written "autobiographies" and too many dull strategy guides; I didn't want to create another one of those.

So it's all there in naked detail, along with the identification of some of my fellow players as thugs, thieves, drunks and cheats. Fortunately, the only one who has complained so far is the player I described as having a lisp. He is absolutely horrified by the slur.

Available in the US yet? Anyone read it?

Will probably read because I expect her to be a better writer than poker player.

I bet she is a better poker player then you think. Didn't she win the WSOPE? Does she not play high stakes games regularly at the Victoria casino?

I agree she is not top of the line but she is not weak. That lady has been playing poker for over 20 years.

There was a nice review in the paper today (well it would be she writes a for the Guardian too). Looking forward to reading the book though!

I think she is good at both, because she is also a journalist, if you don't know that.

Vicky is really hot IMO and an articulate and funny person, but if she's really quitting poker it might make it hard to meet her. Drats :-/ GL Vicky in whatever you do!

Thumbs up great book!

Just finished it, very good reading, would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoyed The Big Deal, Shut up and deal etc.
Best poker novel I've read in a long time!

Yup, currently reading it. The hardback copy is what you'd expect to pay for a paperback on amazon.co.uk, so what's not to love about that.

Really nice to read a poker memoir by somebody who can actually write. The last one I read was by Roy 'The Boy' Brindley, and it stank to high heaven. Vicky's book, in contrast, puts one in mind of Mr. Justice Caulfield's remarks on Mary Archer -- the book has fragrance and elegance and our visions of her will never disappear.

Joking aside, it's the best writing in a poker book since Al Alvarez.
