Raiser's Edge

I was looking at poker books on Amazon and I came across the listing for this upcoming book. The writers alone make it look interesting.

Re: Raiser's Edge

This book is a collaboration between ElkY (Bertrand Grospellier), Tysen Streib, Tony Dunst, and me. It concentrates on LAG and hyper-LAG styles of play in NLHE tournaments- how to implement them and defend against them. It is replete with math-based equilibrium strategies and numerous actual hand examples (mostly from ElkY's tournaments). This is not a book for beginning players. It should be released before the end of June and I think you should be able to order it through the 2+2 store. Mike consistently gives great service in getting books into the hands of poker players expeditiously upon release.

Sounds great. Can't wait. I loved Kill Everyone.

Do you feel your three books (Kill Phil, Kill Everyone, and Raiser's Edge) serve as a trilogy and can/should be read as such?

Re: Raiser's Edge

You need to listen to the song by Tommy Angelo "Raisers Edge"

Very good.

I preordered through the LVAdvisor store. Pretty good deal. $19.99 + s&h.

Re: Raiser's Edge

ChaosReigns,

These three books were not written as a trilogy. Each was written by a different set of authors. Kill Phil targeted inexperienced tournament players and focused on math-derived principles of long-ball poker as a way of leveling the playing field against better players.

Kill Everyone was written to help readers understand advanced concepts of tournament play, such as fold equity, fear equity, prize pools and equities, bubble play, and optimal strategies when short-stacked at various stages of the tournament, including heads-up play. It was not a direct extension of KP, but I think it would be helpful for a beginner to have read KP (and HOH 1 & 2) prior to reading KE. However, for players already at the intermediate or advanced levels, or who have already read HOH, reading KP before KE would not, imo, be necessary.

The Raiser's Edge is based on analysis of current trends in NLHE tournaments and covers topics not covered in KE and concentrates on the loose aggressive, and hyper-loose aggressive styles. ElkY (Bertrand Grospellier) is the lead author (if you are not familiar with him, at age 30 he has won $7,500,000 in live tournaments alone), and presents his way of looking at the game using specific hand examples from actual tournament situations to emphasize his thought processes, backed up by solid math analysis by Tysen. Since different topics are covered, and since, in my view, RE is more complex than KE, it would be better to have read KE and understood the concepts before reading RE, but not absolutely essential.

I know they were not written as a trilogy and that they were written by different groups although you are a common denominator among all the groups. I was asking, and you answered, if they could be treated as a trilogy. And a very nice answer it was.

Hi Everyone:

This book was sent to us for possible publication, but at the time we couldn't take on another project. However, I did do a quick review of the manuscript and it appears to contain a lot of good information.

Best wishes,
mason

Hopefully you, or someone from 2plus2, can do a review once it is out.
