Re: Quantum Poker by Derric Haynie
I'll give it to ActionDJ: this is the first e-book author that seems to know how to write good English... judging from the website.

Looks like it might cover a lot of advanced concepts. However, also looks like it has a lot of unnecessary fluff. (Based on a read of the TOC, I am guessing "Don't tap the glass", "Captain Hindsight" etc are not groud breaking strategy writing).
My guess is that there are 100 pages of solid info and 100 pages of non-essential material to make it the length of a book. If the 100 pages are good could easily be worth $50.

However, have you read the TOC recently posted? The book includes a section on CardrunnerEV, along with S-bucks, G-bucks, books that were great but are dated, books that are still great. Granted, there is one page on C-EV but that's more than most books.
My mouth is watering for this one.

My main thesis to the book is to learn how to use CREV without "using" CREV; you could say all of chapter 4 is on CREV (but more exciting than using that boring yet useful program). My goal is to point out that finding an optimal decision in a hand of poker is an advanced enumeration calculation and the better you are at enumerating in-game (intuitively) the better you will be at poker. We all do this all the time, think about how many turn or river cards we will barrel and how likely that will win us the pot, but I want people to understand what they are doing, quantify it, study it, and improve on it, and I think the foundations I lay out in the book are a really good start to getting people thinking more clearly about their actions, options, and optimal decisions.

Chapter 5 has tons of quick thought concepts meant to just remind readers of some of the simpler things (you can call it fluff if ya want it is more about common sense than making better in-game decisions), many things that I literally thought of while playing poker that I thought I would share with people, here is Don't Tap the Glass to give ya an idea:
Quote:
Don’t Tap the Glass
Because poker can be played like other gambling games, people are often okay with being long-term losers for the thrill of the game and a chance of short-term success. Also, many people are in denial about being long-term losers, often blaming the fact that they are down right now on luck. In fact, there are many times when every player at the table probably thinks they are a winning player, and someone else at the table is not, which can't possibly be right. There have been many times I have had a bad player turn to me and tell me about how badly their opponent played a hand, all the while thinking about how badly they played the hand, or how badly both players played the hand. I just smile and nod; there is never a reason to point out their mistakes or make them feel dumb, bad, or embarrassed (that would just be plain rude!).

Fluff might be a harsh term. I was more responding to the idea of the book being on advanced concepts and that many of these topics were not. Honestly, not every page of a 220 page book can be groundbreaking new material, nor would I expect it to be. If you felt these were important topics then, there is no harm in adding them.
I have been thinking about picking this up for a few days. I may pull the trigger so that I can form a more complete opinion.

Yeah, I had the same impression at first but the way the author explains it is actually fine to me, and I have spent a lot of my life studying quantum. For the layperson it is a fine analogy.

Re: Quantum Poker by Derric Haynie
This actually looks really interesting. Is it an e-book / is there an e-book option? Amazon says it's a paperback.

No e-book as of yet, but there is clearly a lot of demand for it so I will be working to get one out soon.

why guess? Just read it if you want to have an opinion, otherwise don't.

Reading a book has a cost in time and money so it is perfectly normal for anyone who values both to make his own opinion (or "guess") based on the toc and the free sample and re-evaluate as more information and reviews become available.

Obviously no one wanted to have a real opinion. I am curious for a review as well, but would be happy to act as a test subject to write one if the author wanted to shoot me a copy.

Given that the author has acknowledge that there would be some corrections made and e-book out soon, I am suspecting that many potential purchasers are waiting for that to happen before obtaining their copy.

Re: Quantum Poker by Derric Haynie
I had a bit of extra cash around so I was going to buy this title, but paypal doesn't want to let me ship to Canada. Looking for a fix now, hopefully it doesn't cost the author a sale.
