Phil Gordon's Little Gold Book

Anyone want to offer me some feedback about this publication? Picked any random strat book and this was it. What should I absorb, what should I avoid? Feed back much appreciated. I am mainly a HU NL player, also play sngs and mtts. Stay away from cash. TAG, but will adapt from time to time if I feel I'm swimmimg around with sharks.

I own the book, but haven't got around to reading it yet. However, here is a link to a previous review if you are interested:

Lot's of bad advice in the book tbh, at least in the NLH section. Not much of PLO player so I can't really say much about that part. The NLH section was detrimental to my game, not helpful in any way.

So, it's probably very good then; if anything is good according to you, it probably isn't, and vice versa.

Re: Phil Gordon's Little Gold Book

I read most of it and I thought it did a good job of introducing the elements of "NLH 2.0", just as his green book did a good job of introducing the more basic concepts 5 or 6 years ago. I think this is a pretty helpful tool for beginners or even "oldschool" live players who haven't really kept up with the changing trends. Theres also graphs and a lingo section to kind of help. I'd recommend it.

It always fascinates me when some poster comes into the thread and claims that of book has a lot of bad advice in a number of errors but supports it with no examples.

I have 3 theories about these posters...

One they just trying to build their post count

Two their trolling

Three their disciples of a particular style of play and it's the only style that's ever correct in their own mind.

honey badger, i was agreeing with u (although there are a fair number of typos NOT logical errors).

i fairness, i didn't document the typos so i'd have to readthe whole book to find them again. i think bad logical advice would be easier to remember

Re: Phil Gordon's Little Gold Book

His little green book was the first I had ever read so I have been a fan of Phil ever since. I will say that the 3 sections he didn't write were by far the best though. Obrestad, Cates, and Galfonds sections are worth reading it imo. You can spend $20 on a book and if you profit $20 dollars from just one thing you learned this it should be seen as a good investment.

I know you were. I was commenting on the type of poster like Davion67 with the two figure post count that says a book is bad with really no supporting reason never to be seen in the thread again.

I didn't buy the book but skimmed through it at the store. IIRC, Jungleman recommended to fold the bottom 20% of hands only preflop when facing a 3-bet. Many will spew if they don't know what to do with their junk hands post-flop.

This is an excellent point especially if you are out of position.
