I only play 1-2 and 1-3 live. Therefore, my book review request needs to pertain only to those two limits. I don't care about 2-5 or higher.

Also, as with the other Kindle eBook that I have also requested a review, I ask that only a person who has actually read this book give reviews. For obvious reasons, any review from a person who has not read a book that he is reviewing would be invalid.

No Limit Holdem Cash Games: Flawless Victory in 1-2, 1-3 and 2-5 Live Games

This book, which seems self published (like over half of all Kindle poker books) always seems to be on the Kindle poker bestseller list and has had some good reviews. I hope someone here on Two Plus Two, who has read this book, can give it a thorough review here.

Thanks.

I have read this book and I highly recommend it.

It is basically a book on exploitation. Specifically, it teaches you exactly who to target in live low limit games (1-3 and 1-2 and sometimes 2-5). It also teaches you how exactly to exploit those who are most profitable to target. The author does a good job of ranking these targets in terms of which one you should be prioritizing.

There are targets that you exploit with "trapping" and there are targets that you can exploit with "milking". Basically, when you're trapping you're basically giving bettors and raisers the rope to hang themselves. Milking is done to exploit donks that tend to bet or raise less, calling stations.

When trapping the trappable targets these are the fancily named lines of play that the author describes:

The Butterfly Trap

The Traditional Sandbag

The Min-Bet Venus Fly Trap

The Contrarian Overbet

The Aikido Ultimatum

When milking, the author writes that its basically about bet sizing:

Bet Sizing for Super Dry Boards

Bet Sizing for Straighty Boards

Bet Sizing for Flushy Boards

Bet Sizing for Straighty Flushy Boards

He says that sizing bets based on board texture makes it easier to be difficult to read because you are betting the same amount whether you're bluffing, blocking or value betting. It is the texture of the board that tells you how much to bet.

Ummmm, what else.

As to the quality of the writing, this book gave me eye strains. The paragraphs are very long and I sometimes found myself lost mid-paragraph. Even though it is a short book (36 pages) it is a brutal read but very focused in its subject matter, namely:

Who are the most profitable players to exploit in 1-2 and 1-3.

How exactly to exploit them.

As to 2-5 or higher, I think that this book is useful mostly insofar as there are 1-2 or 1-3 type players there. Some of the concepts and recommended lines of plays are sophisticated enough to work against sophisticated players but it seems like this book is really all about maximizing gains by targeting the weak. If you are playing for the money rather than for the ego or respect then this is the book for you.

This book can be most useful if the reader has already read the Theory of Poker and Professional No Limit Holdem. Sure, it can be read independently but it is best in combo with these two books.

Summary: This book is about targeting and exploiting. Very down to earth and specific. You'll get the sense that the author actually plays these limits often and successfully.
