Matthew does the book discuss the theory behind small bet sizings? I'm kinda intrigued by the whole 1/3 pot sizing and now I've seen smaller being utilised.

Yes, there is a lot of discussion regarding small bet sizing.

Ok, thanks.

If you buy the e-book can you share it with someone or is there a problem with that? I don´t mean simultaneous access, but what are the rules?
05-31-2017 , 02:13 AM
I dont recall the exact number but the eBook is licensed for 3-4 devices using the same Adobe user account. If you want to give someone your Adobe ID and password and don't mine giving up one of your installs, go for it.

Make sure you register your Adobe Digital Editions reader with your Adobe ID before the first installation of the book, otherwise the books will be locked to that single device.

The download link only works once, so to share it you need to copy the file.

Back up the fie as well. In a PC it is located in My Documents/My Digital Editions folder.

Wow, quick answer.

Thanks.

Hi Mike:

We've been shipping Amazon books and I believe they're already starting to ship them out. However, the books go to a lot of different warehouses and then they have to work through the Amazon System. But again, I believe they're already beginning to ship out.

Best wishes,
Mason

My copy has just arrived today. In the UK in case anyone is wondering about delivery timescales.

So about a week in transit for intl first class.

(Very) early observation. It's been a long time since I've read Applications and my memory may be playing tricks of me but I remember it being pretty dry in terms of style. I'm pleasantly surprised to find the new book is written in a very conversational style. Can't put it down.

Is the book available to purchase in Europe yet? If so where can I buy it? Can't seem to find it on amazon.co.uk

Yes, the new book is easier reading. But then again, I dissected every hand example in Applications with a fine toothed comb, so that may be part of the reason. On the other hand, I wish there were a few more examples in NLHFAP in the same format Matthew's using in it. At least as far as I've read, I'm only about 20% in.

My Windows Phone has an Adobe Acrobat reader. Will that work in reading this? I've never used a DRM PDF before so just making sure before I buy, thanks.

No, you will need to load and register Adobe Digital Editions. Its a free app.

Ordered the paperback + PDF today. Looking forward to reading this book.

Two small questions:

In the questions section of part one, you ask if the BU flat vs CO open range on KK2 and 974 was linear or condensed. Did you mean the BU's call c-bet range on the flop, or just their preflop range.

And as a second question; your notes on bet sizing in the second section seemed unclear. You mention statistical distributions tending to follow a normal (bell-curve) distribution, but i'm having trouble connecting how that relates to the importance of bet sizing.

#1) It should be the calling range. So the point was on a KK2r board, you're likely to have no raising range (or at least a very very narrow raising range) since any hand strong enough to range probably both doesn't need to raise now to deny equity and likely has a removal effect (KQ for example). Whereas on a 974 board your hands are more vulnerable so it makes sense to raise most of the strong hands now.

#2) Let me answer the bet sizing question in more detail later when I have the book in front of me. But IIRC Mason who is a mathematician thought this page was a good addition to showcase that while a hand may have many possible optimal bet sizes, in reality they're probably for the most part pretty similar and even if you are a bit outside the optimal sizing (say an optimal sizing is 40-60% of the pot and you bet 65%) then it won't likely have a large effect on your EV.

I think you should hit a wall of hand examples (ranges) pretty soon whereas the very detailed individual hand examples come towards the end of the book.

So the result of this was Applications had a lot of stuff that was quite advanced for its time, but it also got a fair amount of it wrong. Already very good players for the most part have been fine with this, as they can learn new things from the advanced concepts and when something is wrong usually identify why it's wrong, shrug it off and go "meh, Janda was wrong on this one," and not allow it to develop new leaks in their game. But for newer players, there is a bigger risk of developing leaks in your game with reading Applications, as you may misunderstand a concept that's explained correctly without you realizing it (the "minimum defense frequency" is a common one) and there are just some sections that time has shown to be highly inaccurate in not just plain wrong (the pre-flop section is the first section that comes to mind).
Hi Matt,

Which part of Applications should we skip and what's wrong with the "minimum defending frequency" ?
06-03-2017 , 12:16 PM
Very minor criticism, and it may just be my copy, but the hands highlighted in the tables on pages 105 and 106 are lighter than the other tables in the book and barely stand out in comparison to the non highlighted hands. They're a bit difficult to read.

Re: mdf He said misunderstood not wrong. This is covered well in NLHFAP as far as when mdf applies and when it doesn't.

Hey all,

Anyone here had the book delivered to the UK?
If so, how long did you wait between ordering and delivery?

I looked on amazon.co.uk and it says usually delivered within 1-2 months, and it does not mention the number in stock.

Thing is, I live in South America, but will be visiting the UK for a few weeks from mid June. Would love a paperback copy as I'm old school, but don't really want to pay the same price as the book on delivery.
The hope was to get it sent to the UK whilst I'm there. However if the chances of the book being delivered before early July are slim to none, then going this route is not the right play.

So if anyone has experience of ordering in the UK, let me know please.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info MrNo.

I did search the thread and read those posts before.
Probably wasn't clear in that last post of mine- sorry, it's been a heavy weekend!

Specifically, I was wondering if anyone had ordered the book from amazon.co.uk to the UK, and if so, what the delivery time was.
(don't think Husker specified where he ordered from)

I'd prefer to order from there, as it is free delivery.
International delivery for the paperback (to UK or S.A) doubles the cost of the book (will prob get a copy on kindle as well, as I did with Applications of NLHE, so would rather not triple spend).

Don't want to clog the thread up any more with my query, so if anyone has experience through amazon.co.uk, if you could PM me, it'd be much appreciated.

Cheers all, happy pokering, and looking forward to reading your book Matthew - loved the first one
