Re: New Book: How To Read Hands At No-Limit Hold’em by Ed Miller

Just finished a quick read through. Haven't gone through all the exercises, but I'll do that next.

I think this will help my hand reading immensely. I like that the examples are geared to the the games/stakes I play. 1/2 to 2/5.

I had flopzilla before I purchased the book. It makes going through the examples and exercises a breeze.

Hopefully it will reap big rewards.

So is this book geared towards live or online players? Are the examples in the book live or online?

I'd say live. The theory could be applied to online I guess, but I think it's more suited to live full-ring games.

I'd be interested in what specifically you found to be a replication of previous work. Maybe you could quote a couple of chapters that I can refer to.

Lets stop w/ the analogies... If u think Ed sux then dont buy it. He makes it easier for me to comprehend complex topics. Owen Gaines also teaches in that same type of style. Since I have Hole Card Confessions ill pass on this.

Re: New Book: How To Read Hands At No-Limit Hold’em by Ed Miller

As someone that has always struggled at learning how to hand read, this book is a great help. You have to do the exercises and study to get better, but this book gives you the tools on how to do that.

That being said, I spent a good 2 days going through some old hands in HEM @ 50NL and below. My goal was to put my opponents on hand ranges using the steps in this book. The end results were 50NL players and below have WAY WAY WAY wider ranges than the villians in this book.

There were alot of non-hand reading concepts I picked up as well. A few things that should have been obvious but I never really figured it out on my own. Ex. regs love to limp call with Ax, so beware of Ace high board much more than a King or Queen high board against regs. That point may be lol duh to many of you, but it opened my eyes to another piece of the puzzle.

Bought the book. Are there answers to the exercises? I can't seem to find these.

Review:

If you have problems reading hands or find yourself lost through out the hand I feel like this is a book for you. It provides a clear cut systemic approach to hand reading. The exercises I think are brilliant and should be a part of all quality poker books. It quite simply helps you digest the material better. The book does not try to be anything it is not. It doesn't apply to huge high stake live or online games and it says as much. It will certainly put you on the right track though. Very good book imo.

Is this worth it? $50 seems a bit pricey, that could probably pay a month's subctiption at Cardrunners or DC

Haven't read the book yet, but I've heard the book is mainly for live players. The lowest limit live is 200NL. So $50 is 1/4 of a 200NL buy-in. Not pricey at all.

Quite impressed with Ed's Book. I suggest everyone open up pokerstove and flopzilla while reading this book. It will help see how the author pegged his ranges.
