Mathematics of Poker Study Group -Another kick at the can
Hello All,
After reading a couple threads relating back to MOP it renewed my interest in reading that dam book...again...and this time maybe, just maybe actually finishing it.
I know there was a study group a while ago, I tried to be a part of it and keep up, but due to other commitments, just didn't have the time. Now that I am putting more commitment into poker study, I though I would revisit this and see if I could start up a group of people that would be interested.
Thoughts?
Take care,
THE HUN.

Yeah, I might be in depending on how we will format it.

Re: Mathematics of Poker Study Group -Another kick at the can
I am only in here for a couple of minutes, but wanted to check this thread to see if there was some interest, and it looks like there is. So, later tonight, I will be reviewing how other people set up study threads, and see if by tommorow we can get this going with a schedule (that is reasonable- the last one I felt was going a bit too fast for each chapter) and then.
Take care,
THE HUN.

I mean if we can get 10 ppl in, then 5 probably will just not contribute or skip out anyways, but 3-5 is enough imo.
I crossref to poker theory.

Re: Mathematics of Poker Study Group -Another kick at the can
this sounds really interesting, but is the book going to be at a level that a complete beginner would really benefit from it? that's my concern after reading the reviews.

If you are a poker beginner you will learn things from this book, but it would not be the best use of your time. No matter what your game is your time would be more profitably spent studying another book.

Very interested. Got the book a month ago but haven't really started studying it yet.

Re: Mathematics of Poker Study Group -Another kick at the can
Ok well it looks like we have about eight here so let's wait one or two more days to see if we can get the interest level to around the ten mark. Obviously if it hasn't happened, then we will start with 8. Tult, I do agree with you that half will probably drop off, but as long as we get five in with good discussion, and if nothing else motivating each other to finish this damn book then that is good enough. I would propose that we spend about 3-4 days time to read each chapter, then discuss the contents afterwards. That should be a good enough lead time for those who are a bit busy with work/life etc.
Take care,
THE HUN.

I'm interested also. I have had the book for a while, but never read it. I'm good with math and want to participate. I'll be back home on July 1...start without me.

The first chapters are pretty basic. I think we can blow through them pretty fast, 3-4 days as suggested. It starts to get hard around ch 10, so I think doing a chapter a week would be better when we get there, as they're a lot more applicable to pokerplay.
I imagine that we could all just set up hotmail accounts or w/e for this purpose, get a good mailing list going, so we can mail around questions and such.

Is it the one written by Bill Chen. If it is I'll give it a try. I've never participated in a study group on here before.
