list of tournament poker books
Hello.
I have been playing sitngos for 2 years, and now want to move to tournament poker.
Could you please write your list of good NLH tournament poker books? (I expect there are 5-10 good tournamnet books)
Thank you

Re: list of tournament poker books
you will probably get some better feedback if you let us know what limits you are playing.

Re: list of tournament poker books
Even though they are dated I don't think it would hurt to read HoH vol 1 & 2. You will get the basics out of these two books.
The best books now are Little's two books(the first one is more important for a beginner imo) and Raisers Edge.
Kill Everyone is decent as well, but may be getting dated as well.
Whatever you do. DO NOT BUY THE POKER TOURNAMENT FORMULA I or II. Author is a big con artist. Not even his real name. AVOID!!!

Nononono
If you want to have succes at tournament poker, play chicken poker.
dont try to imitate anything you see from tv.
Dont play to win. Play to cash. If the idea "you have to play to win at every time" enters your mind, youll be...i cant find the word in enlgish, but its "Temerario" in spanish.
Youll be abslute fearless, and thats brings to destuction. You have to know what you do and why, at every moment.
Between being a Coward, and a "Temerario" you always have to choose being Temerario.
But not if you are new at that current level you are playing.
Hope you get the point

I would consider the Little books, the Harrington books, and perhaps the Winning Poker Tournaments books to be one book as they cover the same ground. But I wouldn't consider the two Snyder books to be one book as each covers a different type of tournament.

There may be reasons for not reading the PTF books, but the author using a pseudonym isn't one of them.

Agreed. I really didn't want to derail this thread into a PTF bash fest. Plenty of threads on that already.
I have PTF1 and really never found the value to it. I've had more sucess in the fast structured tournaments using the Kill Phil/Kill Everyone strategies.

Re: list of tournament poker books
the Snyder books are worth reading IMO
the author makes some good points and taught me to be more aggressive in my play
no book is perfect and you should read as many books as you can afford

As the owner of over a hundred books, I disagree with the part I bolded. I have an understanding of many different styles of play, but I think I would have done better buying fewer books. I know my wallet would have thanked me.

I agree. I just reorganized my bookshelves and I'm amazed how many books that I purchased they'll probably never look at again. You wouldn't think that over a period of 5 years poker would evolve so much but it certainly has.
I unfortunately have invested in a bunch of pretty bad books. The killer poker series may be my worst serial investment.

buy them used on Amazon & then sell them back
you can learn something from any book be it good or bad advice
they all make you think about the game which is how you evolve as a player
even those books you no longer look at helped you get to where you are today as a player

I rarely do used and haven't sold any of my poker books, but I've given some away.
If I wanted to save money, I would probably buy B stock from professionalpoker. I've never ordered from him directly, but I helped out someone, got "paid" with a free book, and PP handled the fulfillment. His service was fast!
