I love DH and BR books, but how much "modern tournament poker" are they playing these days?

I think Harrington doing really well in the WSOP this year would go a long way.

I have the book and wrote up a review here, for anyone who is interested. I gave it three stars out of five on Amazon.

I have a question about example 4-8.

Stack sizes aren't given, but we are told blinds are 50/100, so I assume that we are relatively deep stacked. We have AcTc in bb. Aggressive but not crazy player in MP opens to 300. We call.

Flop is Th9h4s. We check. Villain bets 400.

Harrington says that the optimal play here is to raise now to try to end the hand. His reason is that we don't want to see a K, Q, J, 8, 9, 6, 7, or a heart.

My question is how do we respond to a raise? I assume we fold, but isn't that turning TPTK into a bluff? What do we do OOP on varying turn cards in villain calls our raise?

My usual response would have been to check/call flop.

Agreed, it has always puzzled me why people measure their stacks in BB. Measuring it in terms of 'M' makes it so much easier.

Completely agree

I always do it as M [not that I play tourneys anyway]

I've always wondered why pros [when doing commentary/chat] always talk in BB. As do all all the commentary teams... is this to keep it dumbed down - or does 99.99% of players always think in BB????

BB is preferred by some because it makes it easier to measure reverse pot and implied odds that you are laying for your opponents.

+1. I think in terms of M, but most players I hear talk in terms of BB instead of M.
I also use percentages when figuring out pot odds, but most seem to use x-to-y odds, e.g., "I'm getting 2-to-1 odds" instead of "I need 33% equity to call."

Yeah - I think in % for pot odds too... so much clearer to me then getting 2 - 1 pot odds
