Hello, long time MTT player who learned the game studying the HOH series. I want to learn live low limit cash games and was wondering what people think of the Harrington On Cash game book. Is it relevant to today's game? The local card room plays live $1/$2 full ring.

HOC I&II are the way to play for live games.

Thanks for the response phydaux....much appreciated. I was hoping his cash game books are still relevant, I know a lot of people feel his tournament books are outdated (although I don't see how the basics can ever be outdated) and I was wondering if players felt the same about his cash game books. I'm still learning the cash game but as far as I can tell volume 1 seems solid.

Decent book for a beginner but if you are a good tournament player there may be better books for you. I'm also a big fan of Ed Miller so my list may be a bit biased.

Professional No-Limit Hold'em: Vol 1
Playing the Player
How to read hands
No Limit Hold'em: Theory and Practice
No Limit Texas Hold'em: A complete Course (I haven read this one but a friend of mine did and said it was a very good book for low stakes cash games)

Yes,

Both HOC books are a solid start for getting into live cash game play, a small portion of the book is outdated but will be a good book in laying the groundwork for a fundamentally sound game.

Hey JagenGeist, can you give me a little heads-up as far as what part of the book you believe to be outdated and why? Are there outdated parts in both books? Just one in particular?

I definitely recommend NLHTP. I've read through it twice and have learned a lot each time through. Definitely improved my cash games play.

Hey JoeKing...I skimmed through NLHT&P very briefly and looks a little advanced for me at this time. Looks real solid though.

I also suggest depositing a little money online to play microstakes. You get to play a lot of hands and get experience for a lot cheaper than playing 1-2 live at a casino.

in my Review of the TOC on HOC1 I noticed he talks about "probe" bets which I think are fairly nonsensical. He also seems to mention the need for balance in multiple sections of the book which is unnecessary in LLSNL.

I don't agree 100% with everything in this book, but it is a definite must read if your getting atarted in LLSNL.

Its up to you to do the critical thinking and analyze what is and is not useful for you in your game.

GL!

I'm curious to see more opinions on this too as I just purchased a used copy of this book.

I am new to poker and reading Poker by the Book by john Anhalt to learn the poker rules for NLHE cash games. I will read the Cash game book by Harrington later. Seems it will also be so much helpful for me.
