what are some good poker books, that are good in 2017? Books that are not outdated.

To be clear you are asking what books published in the past are still good and not outdated in 2017. You are not asking what books due to be published in 2017 are likely to be good.

To be honest, this never came across my mind. I would love to know what books are coming in 2017? How do I find out what books are coming in 2017?

Many 2plus2 books have withstood the test of time. Theory of Poker, Psychology of Poker, and Inside The Poker Mind are three that come to mind.

I go to Amazon, change category to books, enter poker as my search term, and then order the results by publication date. This shows newest to oldest so upcoming books will be shown first. Or Mason's way works too.

There are some interesting books coming out this year. One that isn't listed is Matthew Janda's new book being released by 2plus2. Another coming in 2017 that isn't listed in Mason's list is the book by Daniel Negreanu and Doyle Brunson.

The list that Mason posted a link to updates and I see there has been a change.

Tommy Angelo has a new ebook, Painless Poker, due out one day before Mason's new book.

From that list, the ones I haven't pre-ordered yet and am looking forward to the most are the Hellmuth book, the Cichy book, the Brunson book, and the Moorman book. I see the Brunson book is listed in the list, but just doesn't have a cover illustration so I overlooked it when Mason posted the link.

One I am on the fence about is Little's new book. If it is simply a combined reprinting of his books on small stakes cash games and small stakes tournaments, I won't be getting it because I already have the two books. If it is a lot of new material, I will probably get it.

I won't be getting Angelo's book because it is in Kindle format and I have nothing that will read that format.

One book not on the list, and I double checked, is Arnold Snyder's Poker Tournament Secrets. It is not on the list Mason posted the link because it is not in the poker sub-category.

I suspect the Brunson book is not a new book, just a new title to an old book.

I like the book "Small Stakes Poker Tournaments" by Jonathan Little. The book gives advice on how you can analyze your opponent to learn their habits and use that knowledge against the opponent. He also explains these strategies in easy-to-understand ways that a beginner would be able to learn from. It's a good read.

I am not sure why you think I would combine old material into a new book and call it a day, as I have never done this with any of my books. A few other authors who don't have much to contribute do this on a regular basis, but that is not how I operate. If I ever release an article anthology, it will be a huge one with about 500 articles and it will be clear that all material is from my past material.

Mastering Small Stakes NLHE is over 500 pages of in-depth range analysis discussing how to develop fundamentally sound strategies, and how to adjust them to take advantage of the various player types you are likely to encounter in the small stakes games.

I thought that because of the similarity of the title of the three books.

If the new book is over 500 pages, you better contact Amazon. They show it as being 352 pages.

The initial book length, title, cover, page number, etc. are all subject to change on preorders. Once the book is in print, these details will be accurate.

Mason alludes to the drawback in this method when he says "while not complete...". The drawback is this will only show upcoming books in the category the publisher has chosen.

An upcoming book, Ethics of Poker, I am interested in isn't showing up because the publisher hasn't chosen to place it in any category. DUCY would not have shown up in poker when it was a new release as it is in the self-help category.

The problem with searching using my method is you end up having to scroll through a lot of fiction on strip poker.

That explains why I thought the page count had changed from an earlier time and this reinforced my mistaken belief it was a combined reprinting of your strategies for small stakes books. I believe an earlier page count of your new book showed it being slightly bigger than the total page count of the other two books combined.

A 500 page book may be okay for an ebook, but I think a physical book of that size will be pretty unwieldy.

If the page count increases by 150 pages, I would suggest people pre-order because the price will surely increase too, but by pre-ordering people won't pay the increased price.

Excelling at No-Limit Hold'em did not have the basic range stuffs for stack sizes one needs to know when playing hypers, turbos and slower tourneys. We already know how to play cash, and basically all we need to know to play tourneys is that. I think much of it is in some older book(s) by other author(s), and there might be some tables hanging out somewhere that cover up to all that. I read some other books as HHs, that was hard, but I still don't know exactly how to deal with a lot of situations mathematically.

The aim of Excelling at NLHE was not to publish a book containing push/fold charts for all stack sizes, positions, and antes. Clearly a book containing 300 charts would not be too useful. There are various free apps online that have all push/fold situations clearly presented.

You can download a Kindle app that will allow you to read books in Kindle format. You can also get Painless Poker in other formats from Angelo's website.

Hi Everyone:

Good progress is being made on Matt Janda's next book, No-Limit Hold 'em for Advanced Players; Emphasis on Tough Games, and we hope to have the book available in approximately three months.

Best wishes,
Mason

So far in my read (about half, I read a lot of things at once) it has been an enjoyable page turner with plenty of real life poker scenarios. A view for everyone who enjoys poker and will definitely make your view on life, and of course poker a bit brighter.

Painless Poker seems to focus more on "mindful breathing", meditation, and yoga than poker. The ending was enough to take your breath away.

The Grinder's Manual by Carroters is very good and in touch with the modern poker game

I agree I liked the last story in the book

But, I felt like it was mostly the same information as in EOP(which I love) delivered in more of a story format that I just didn't connect with.

Yeah, I'm about 2/3 of the way through it myself. So far, I'm pretty disappointed, since I really liked a lot of Angelo's other work. But this book is a series of bad beat stories (mostly fictional) followed by what seems like 300 pages of Tommy extolling the virtues of meditation and Buddhist philosophy in a rather tedious "Socratic" format. I suppose I should go ahead and finish it if the ending is great.

Yeah I remember and looking at my kindle 20% of the way into the book and saying to myself I am no more interest in reading bad beat stories LOL.

He was also preaching to the quire as I was sold on the value of meditation in EOP.
