Good PLO books? Good PLO books?

I am looking for a good book or two to learn PLO strategy. I am a NL player looking to dabble in PLO and want to learn about the odds, etc.

On amazon kindle there are only 3 results..

Pot limit omaha poker - the big play strategy by jeff hwang that was published in 2008 and is $2.99 for 353 pages.

And then there is strategies to beat small Stakes pot-limit Omaha by matthias pum for $17.95 and is 224 pages.

The 3rd option is just a 40 page ebook that somebody wrote and uploaded for sale

I am not looking to waste time reading the one published in 2008 because that's already nearly 10 years old. I want something more current because PLO is just recently becoming more and more popular

If anybody has any good recommendations please share

I'll be honest I can't recommend any more recent books I've only read 2 of Hwang's books and the PLO chapter in super system 2 (which is good and still relevant in contrast to Doyle's chapter).

I would disagree that the Hwang's book you mentioned is dated though. I read it about a year ago and it still is very relevant. Omaha has been around since the 80s or 90s. Way before 2008 so serious players have had time to figure out the game. His book spends a lot of time talking about things like wraps and which hands make the nuts, freerolls, and hand strengths which are subjects any beginner book is going to have to cover and most of that stuff comes down to the basic mathematics of the game which will remain the same for as long as the rules remain the same.

I have Hwang's Advanced Potlimit Omaha (small ball and short handed play) on kindle. I think they refer to it as vol 1 now. There is also a vol 2 (lag play) which is available on kindle.

Hwang has four PLO books. His first book is probably sufficient for learning how to play against loose tables where opponents are bad enough that you are getting 5+ players to most flops. The other three books are the Advanced Pot Limit Omaha series. Volume 1 is smallball/shorthanded. Volume 2 is LAG play. Volume 3 is a short-handed workbook.

If you play live small stakes, buy the first book and wait to buy the rest until it feels the first book isn't applicable. In the mean time, keep rereading the first book.

SPOILER ALERT: You should play tighter preflop than some people think is possible. My live PLO VPIP is probably around 20%, which I think is probably correct for the opponents I usually play against.

There's definitely more than 3 Omaha books out there. But if Jeff Hwang's first book is only 3 dollars on kindle you should but it. You'll definitely learn a lot about Omaha for only 3 bucks. The book is pretty old and even though its good you'll want more resources. There are some decent free videos on Youtube, including some by Phil Galfond, and you can also post questions on the forums here. That would be a very cheap way to get off to a good start in Omaha.

Hwang's first book is $2.99? My god, that's a joke. This is a no brainer fist pump purchase. You have to know that book.

His advanced series is good for certain games once you've mastered playing tight and solid from the first book. But the advanced books can get you in trouble if you haven't identified the situation and your opponents correctly.

It is easier to start with the Mastering pot limit omaha book than read books of hand histories that are much based on opinion and will serve little till you jump into tougher games.
