hello everryone,
I have recently decided to try to improve my poker game so I have gone to the store and purchased a few books.( all 3 HOH tournament books, Poker Math that Matters, The Theory of Poker, No Limit Poker theory and practice and small stakes holdem : winning big with expert play)( and yes I know this last one is limit only) I have read that even though the HOH books are a little outdated overall these are all very good books and with the possible exception of the HOH books, these are still relevant to today's games. I am mostly through reading ToP (for the first time, the ToP is deff a book that I wish I had read at the very beginning of my poker playing career) and plan on reading No limit : theory and practice next followed by the poker math that matters book...I was also planing on getting hold em for advanced players by sklansky and playing the player by Ed miller...I am also considering purchasing the elements of poker by Tommy Angelo and the the psychology of a poker player by Alan Schoonmaker...I was just wondering...from anyone that might be reading this....does this sound like a good list ...and more importantly; was wondering if I could get a little list of other books that are good/relevant to todays games or timeless/must read titles?
Thanks!

I'd say "Elements of Poker" is the most valuable book in my collection, get that one for sure. Especially if you want to do this for a living eventually. Ignore the poker advice in it, the rest is pure gold.

"Mathematics of Poker" is the only other book that I really refer to but it's fairly advanced and application is nontrivial. I'd say it's a book that you should pick up later. Actually I do reread ToP every now and then, worth having as well I suppose.

That being said I'm fairly clueless what's out there these days.

Do you mean Psychology of Poker and not Psychology of a Poker Player? I agree that PoP is a timeless title.

Yes doc . That is what I meant to say....I guess I was trying to combine Ed Miller's (playing the player) with the psychology of poker...I have gotten up to pg 212 in the theory of poker but I am not totally sure I am going to finish it...I've also read the first 15 pages of No Limit: Theory and Practice... I think I may finish T & P first....then go back and read them both again...then I suppose I'll go and pick up the psychology of poker....

P.s. has anyone else read through these books more than once?

OP, every book you listed so far can be considered a poker "classic" or "timeless title", however, the specific poker strategic advice they give may be not the latest and most update to date info. Also, the general theme of the books palce more emphasize on "theory" and "apporach", not necessarily practically (with the exception of HOH, perhaps a bit dated though, might wanna check out his more Online CashGames 6max released in '10).

That's not to say the books you listed are not great, I, in fact, like all of them. I just wanted to suggest that there are other less-"timeless" poker books out there that may be more specific at guiding you through flop, turn and river.
