Amazon has complex, strange algorithms that control their pricing that don't make intuitive sense. It's probably something related to Christmas sales and their algorithm making a decision to slash prices to gather customers around this time.

Also keep in mind that Amazon was willing to operate at large losses early in its career just to gain market share. They don't care about losing a few bucks here and there if it keeps them firmly in the market lead. They were willing to give massive discounts on books just to cement their lead and put competitors out of business.

I read Small Stakes Hold'em from Ed Miller.
Good interesting book.
But regarding this new book, I am not implying it is a scam but is it normal to say 1% of poker community knows the information?
I checked his bio on Wiki-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Miller_%28poker_player%29 and nowwhere does it say his performance on poker only general stuff.
If it was Phil Ivey sure I'd believe it but isn't this whole thing a bit unbelievable?

There is a little bit of artistic license with the phrase "1%", but not a lot. It is known from on-line records that only 5% of poker players are winners over the long term. That 11th player, the rake, changes our zero-sum game significantly. I doubt all 5% of those winning players understand these concepts.

I have read much of Miller's, as of now unreleased, book. It is another solid Miller book.

As for Miller's performance, more specifically the undocumented nature of it. There are plenty of great players, there are plenty of great writers. It is rare to find the combination. You want a good, instructive book? Go to a solid player that can write before you go to winning nose-bleed player who can not articulate why he does what he does.

Think Joey Knish from Rounders, the true hero of the movie. Knish was quietly grinding out a win, paying his bills. His life story was not worthy of a movie, nor a Wikipedia article. Knish did not play in the biggest games, but he had solid game. He did not play as big as KGB, but I bet he would write a better book.

Come now, Ed's clearly playing off of the election year rhetoric.

Foxwoods??? Atlantic City was the most credible "watch your back in the parking lot" threat I ever received. I actually did watch my back on that walk out.

If you read his column in the June 26, 2013 edition of Card Player magazine (An Exercise to Improve Your No-Limit Hold'Em), you will know what this book is about.

With that column and the subsequent columns this year, I am very excited for this book. I just need to make the time to start doing the homework required to think in this way.

At the beginning of the month he said pre-order E-books should be up and ready by the end of the month - anyone heard anything?

@Bradley,

I am Doug Hull. I am editing, adding diagrams, and typesetting Ed's book. He and I will make the end of the month deadline without a doubt. I gave Ed the near final draft yesterday, we are going over it tonight.

I have read his book at least three times now during editing. I think it will be another winner. I like it and am anxious to see how people react to the material.

You recommend this book to online players or is focusing on live play?

What stakes and game experiences does he apply his expertise? I noticed a couple of Card Player articles where he essentially said the same thing..."a lot of fold equity vs 2-5$ nits in live games."

I wish guys wouldn't keep upping the prices and acting as though the game has evolved so much that it is necessary. Why not just read Sklansky's theory of poker or one of Harringtons books and go from there. Not much nuance in these other offerings to justify their price.

@OMGNotAgain,

The examples are written at $5-$10 live stakes, mostly. That said, there are sections that specifically answer "Does this apply to $1-$2?" The answer is yes. I think this book applies very well for on-line, and he specifically speaks of that.

You are very simple minded and have no insights into the consensus among the community of molecular geneticists on this topic.
