Re: Dusty Schmidt writes new book "Don't listen to Phil Hellmuth"

450 pages is a lot for a pokerbook. Exciting to see how it turns out,

That's what I thought but I've just watched the pokerstatic interview and Dusty says that they have already checked the legality of it.

One time where Hellmuth knows what he's talking about:

its called "fair usage" of Hellmuth's name, and its the same principle that allows me to write a book about Barack Obama or Sara Palin or whoever and use their names and likenesses.

Seriously though, does leatherass mean to suggest that its not optimal to consider your opponents as lions, elephants and such at the table?

I've asked myself this for a while. I hear people complain about the fact that he's a bumhunter, but don't you want to play againt people you have a skill advantage against? The dude sits at his computer and makes hundreds per hour. I give him props.

It's called "descriptive fair use" - which allows Dusty to use Hellmuth's name, trademark and even his likeness so long as he does not disparage or defame the subject. Granted, since Hellmuth considers himself (and his name) to be a business entity of its own, depending on the extent of the content in the book he could have a claim for business disparagement or tortious interference with business expectancy (though he'd have to show an independent tortious act).

/lawyered

All that said, I love the title - I presume the book has no actual Phil Hellmuth content - and I might actually have to read this.

Worst Poker Advice #2) Playing fewer tables and analyzing table structure and variables is better at making you a more skilled poker player then sheer volume.

Like it.

Someone needs to photoshop an animated .gif of the leatherass fist pump where he's delivering an uppercut to Phil Godzilla-style.

Post your favorite Hellmuth quote imo.

Mine is

If you haven't seen me in action at the poker table, you'll soon learn that the name Phil Hellmuth is synonymous with action and excitement

Re: Dusty Schmidt writes new book "Don't listen to Phil Hellmuth"

"Television has a way of dignifying folks that often don’t deserve the level of respect for their poker games that they would like you to believe they should. For every Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey and Patrick Antonius–folks who deserve their reputations and then some–there are a whole host of others who can’t play their way out of a paper bag."

The way to beat these guys then, is to put them inside a paper bag, amirite?
