If the cover has a couple scratches, its the bird. Her other method of leaving her mark was not exercised near the books.

I have to say that was the friendliest cockatoo I've ever met.

Ya me too. Are there any plans of an e-book version being released soon?

it's really a joke paying $30 for this when it will surely put hundreds, and probably thousands of dollars back in your pocket.

did someone cut n paste this review into amazon.com or are you Mary Kay Parkinson?

Re: DUCY? Reviews and Discussion

I just finished DUCY? and really enjoyed it. In fact, I just ordered a second copy for two reasons:
A) I want an autographed copy
and
B) I want to give the copy I have to my son.

When I ordered this book, I had no intention of reading it right away. I figured it would sit on my shelf until I finished a few other things I am trying to read (e.g. Moshman's Sng book). Somehow I picked it up of my desk and read one chapter from the middle, and couldn't put it down!

I don't have time to give a full review, but I learned a few new things in this book, and learned to think about some other things differently. This by itself makes this book worth the price. Sure, there were a couple of places where I feel that Sklansky and I disagree on premises, but they are not important to the overall lessons contained in this book. I highly recommend it.

Re: DUCY? Reviews and Discussion

A bit off topic, but I just listened to the second part of the the latest DS interview on the pokercast where he recommends doing puzzles to improve on your ability for logical thinking.

Since he must have a ton of them, any chance we'll see a book of Sklansky puzzles from 2+2 in the future?

Or does anyone have recommendations for existing books or other resources for good puzzles?

Re: DUCY? Reviews and Discussion

I have really enjoyed this book so far.

Question:

On page 95, I think it is (book isn't near me now), David mentions his daily diary and one of those is his son "Matt," is it not Mat? I ask more out of curiosity than perhaps stumbling upon a typo. I see people berated for calling him Matt!

Re: DUCY? Reviews and Discussion

I also want to say that at the very least this book will help you think better, and it's well worth the price alone. I can see many people benefiting in a big way from this.

I also think this is the type of book that can be shared with non poker people and give them an insight into the way poker players often think (and of course further help their own thinking). It may not be viable to just hand this to a relative to help explain why you play poker or how you think about the game, but many of the insights here will likely help you articulate that explanation in a way that gives you more satisfying results.

I only mention that point because I hear over and over how non poker people don't understand what players do, or how their family won't accept it, etc.

I also had a moment today where I kind of laughed as I was thinking about the book. My girlfriend came home upset, on the verge of tears that she never got an emissions notification via mail and they won't let her renew her license sticker until that is done. The vehicle can't be fixed until the 2nd of March, so she'll have to pay a higher sticker fee. I, of course, explained to her how $20 is not worth getting upset over as I was thinking of the book.

This wasn't a new concept to me, as I had done the same a few months ago when she was upset about ruining a new $15 pair of lounge pants. But I was happier when explaining it to her this time, whether it was just because I had read the same concept last night in the book and thought it was ironic, or because I was more confident in my reaction, I do not know.

This is a fantastic book, and well worth the money. David is great.

He even put a typo in the book to find (it doesn't cost him anything, and makes nits feel good)!

What, no comment that I should be president as that other reviewer wrote? On the other hand your saying that you are buying a copy for your son I consider even higher praise. So thanks.

The idea that poker players would benefit from having non poker players read this book had not really occurred to me. But I believe you are right. For a variety of reasons. One way to achieve that objective would of course be to post a nice review on Amazon and/or BN.com. But don't do it if you don't mean it.

Amazon has our permission. There is a place on their site where you click requesting it get done which they (erroneously in this case) call Tell The Publisher, that you want it on kindle. I guess they require a certain number of requests.
