DUCY? Reviews and Discussion

i just got this book yesterday, and have been spending 90% of my free time reading it (i'm not reading it now because my brain is too fried to continue for the moment). not only is the advice incredibly helpful, it is also very fun (and addicting) to read. the section on buying a car was genius and will not only save you thousands buying a car, but will save you even more applying the concepts he explains in other parts of life. that's how the whole book is.

it's really a joke paying $25 for this when it will surely put hundreds, and probably thousands of dollars back in your pocket.

tyvm david, alan, and everyone else who worked on the book

Its actually a bigger joke since it is less (depending on shipping method). Retails for $24.95, and its discounted at the store.

Yeah, I got it and then was going to read it later, but picked up spontaneously and read some random section ('Acceleration Effect') --- now I am hooked!

Does anyone know if Poker, Gaming, & Life has similar goodness in it?

Is this book in bookstores yet or can you only order it online?

DUCY? Robots going to take our jobs?

I am really enjoying this book, but I was a little disappointed by the last two paragraphs on page 45. Isn't this the Luddite Fallacy?

It would depend on how good the robots are. But it was an off the cuff remark that I was not claiming certainty about. I started with the words "I think that...." and ended with "If so..." As with the gun contol case I was just trying to find an example where one could use the general principle the chapter (in this case titled The Front Desk) talks about.

The book is definitely NOT a collection of the author's opinions. In a few places a hint of on opinion may leak through but those are the exceptions. The book is really about how to think clearly and creatively, illustrated with examples from Sklanky's life and illuminated by Alan Schoonmaker's comments. Hmm, if that doesn't quite capture it... my apologies.

Although there are several chapters that don't fit into that mold, this is probably the best one sentence description one could write. Mind if I steal it?

It would be correct to say there is a dissonance between the two quoted paragraphs.

DUCY?
