Business Books for Poker Players

What are good business books out there for poker players?

I am particularly interested in internet marketing. But also entrepreneurship in general. I want to earn extra money thru some kind of business not a job.

Recommendations?

Maybe treat your poker like a business by ... someone?

Haven't read it but the title seems fitting. Don't remember the author's name.

Re: Business Books for Poker Players

It sounds as though you want something not poker related, and even if you did want something poker related, I doubt you'd be able to find many legitimately useful books that somehow blended poker and things like internet marketing.

Even if you were hoping that your other business ventures were somehow related to poker, like if you got a job doing internet marketing for one of the poker sites, I think you'd still be better off just reading normal books on marketing and then blending those concepts with your knowledge of poker.

I assume you also aren't looking to shell out the $150-$200 that most university business textbooks cost. Take a look at this list maybe: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Business-.../RN7CO82QAZ47Z

The main problem you're going to have is that most business books that are not textbooks and priced like normal books aren't designed to teach you the technical aspects of how to perform in that field, which is what you need. I almost feel like you might be better off just picking up some used textbooks which would probably only run around $50. If you really can't stand the blandness of a textbook, the first two hits for "internet marketing" on Amazon sound kind of interesting actually... http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...keting&x=0&y=0

Internet related read 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferris.

It is an excellent book on actually making your life easier
work related so you can enjoy doing things you want to do.

Go to Amazon and look for books on day trading. I think that they are the most valuable for poker players.

Unless you are holding investments, anything you do to make money will resemble a job.

There was a spate of books during the 2000s poker boom connecting card play and business theory, such as:

All In: Poker Night Lessons for Winning Big at Your Career
by Geoff Graber
The Poker MBA: Winning in Business No Matter What Cards You're Dealt by Greg Dinkin
Poker as Life: 101 Lessons from the World's Greatest Game by Lee Robert Schreiber

I would also recommend Thomas V. Morris' works. His Stoic Art of Living is a masterpiece on metagame, even though it doesn't mention poker. His business book is If Aristotle Ran General Motors.

almost any business you do, to do it well as an entrepreneur you will spend more time then in a "regular" job. there are not shortcuts.

i have build three significant businesses, 80 to 100 hour weeks were the norm at times. but it was a blast and very lucrative. if you don't love it don't do it, it would be extremely unlikely to work for you.
