Why are you presenting it as an either/or situation? Clearly both of the options are a valuable investment for a low stakes, mid stakes or even high stakes player, and if you are committed to improving your game and bettering yourself as a poker player you should invest in both options.

I can't see how it's $725 better than a Harrington or Sklansky book.

Well, just suppose your means are limited.

For a micro stakes player or low small stakes player (100nl), a subscription to DC probably has more value/$ and won't kill your bankroll.

For a 200nl+ player the book is probably better value/$ but there's no reason not to have both......and probably a LeggoPoker subscription as well.

Get a subscription to CR or DC. When at 100NL get LP. At 200NL get the other one DC or CR. Get a coach or Bobbo's book, or both (preferably). Then print money.

For those reading it, how does it compare to BillyJex's or Ryan Fee's Ebooks?

If you had a $2500 bankroll what would be the better investment?

A Deuces Cracked subscription for about $300 year?

2. The $750 book?

To be priced at $750 this should be something awfully special. There is a lot of good poker material available for a lot less thats my point. It makes one wonder what's so special about this book.

If in 1994 I had a opportunity to purchase Dan Harrington's first 2 tourney books I would have paid $750 bucks, if the book wouldn't be widely available until much later. This book should be that revolutionary at it current price with the excellent instruction available today.

Did you read it?

I read all of Harrington's tourney books and several Sklansky books. Even counting just 4 of these books I guess I payed like $120 for them.

I don't se any way the $120 for those books is even at all close to worth what a book written in exceptional detail and constantly updated for free by an actual online high stakes winner who has a track record of coaching people into big mid and high stakes winners is worth.

I keep going back and forth on buying this RIGHT now....damnit.

Uh....I don't think his books were very revolutionary. They were very very good for the basic person starting to try to learn tournament poker. But I think that's pretty close to it.

So, what if you are already a better cash player then Harrington and Sklansky?

This books audience is not players who are doing to get anything our of Harrington on Cash.

In 1995? There was nothing like it.

I was playing poker tourney's in 1995 were you?

Most players were nits or donkeys by todays standards.

These books would have been pure gold back then.

hes clearly not marketing a $750 book to small stakes players. so to people making the value argument, yes your points are valid, but irrelevant to the fact that his book contains very high level info that cannot be found anywhere else. its just simple supply/demand. if no one buys the book for 750, maybe he'll lower it.

Fair enough. I respect your posts a lot and I am sure it's a good book. I just was making a comparison with the DC question. I think my Harrington example from 1994 makes the point. With all the quality info available on poker in 2008 setting a price this high makes one asks, what makes this book so good? I ain't about to pay $750 bucks to find out.

You also can't see that a 2 million hand sample means you are a losing player

No one is blaming you (i dont think). If $750 is a significant % of your BR then you are not the intended audience IMO. I can say with 100% certainty that Rob is largely responsible for my progression from a decent winner at 1/2 to a fairly big winner at 2/4-5/10, and there is no where you can get the kind of information you'll get from him for less than $750. You could probably hire a coach and learn most of it, but a coach that is on the same level as Rob is going to cost more than Rob's book just for a couple hours of work.

this is an amazing post. the words "some lousy sklansky book" show a complete lack of how good most of sklansky's books are and how much he contributed to the understanding of all poker.

pot odds, implied odds, outs, board texture, semi bluffing, probabilities on your opponents cards, position, and many other key subjects were ether;
1. written about and explain in far greater detail
or
2. first written about in sklansky's books.

david's sklansky's books provided a knowledge base that most poker books on the market, including the nl books and post here, are expanding on.

that doesn't mean that there are not other terrific authors and books. and that certain subjects like nl play won't be taken to new levels. but most of what is written in 2+2 posts, and most of what we know about poker and poker theory was expressed in sklansky's books long before anyone else wrote about them (and i suspect before the arrogant and unaware poster was born).

Anyone who is unconscious of the contributions Dave has made to the game Amulet is in dire need of taking up some other interest.
Daves contributions revolutionized poker.

Bobbofitos stopped offering his book for awhile (presumably to figure out anti-pirating concerns). Does anyone know if he's resumed sales on it?

He said he's going to resume selling it today or tomorrow. Check in at leggo I'm sure that's where the details will be posted when it happens.

seriously thinking about buying this book. mostly good reviews...but I guess people who didn't like it won't admit spending 750 on an e-book.
