I have been playing on and off for a few years, but because I play in periods I feel like I lose touch with the game when I don't play.

What is some good material (don't care if it's a book or video series) for refining the basics of the metagame mechanics?

I honestly don't understand what you are looking for. Are you looking for material about psychology? Are you looking for someone to tell you how to think?

When you say "metagame mechanics" that sounds kind of deep. When you say you want to refine "the basics" of that, it sounds kind of like an oxymoron (like jumbo shrimp.) Can you explain what you're looking for a little more? I think the wording may be why you haven't gotten any responses.

When you say you play in periods, I suppose you mean you play 4 days a month.

My differentiation between normal mechanics and metagame mechanics is simpler than you think. Knowing the rules of the hand rankings and that full house beats a flush would be normal mechanics, whereas the concepts of c-betting, ranges, 3-betting, complete vs raise on SB would fall under metagame mechanics. So what I'm looking for is a really good fundamental understanding of those concepts, allowing me to build further myself.

I'm currently reading A Grinders Manual and it's turning out to be exacly what I was looking for.

No, what I mean is, I will play every day for a few months, then lose motivation (mostly due to downswings).

You're using metagame in a really dumb way.
