Re: Best Ebook reader - Poker books only

oh yeah,

Anyone in Aus you can pick up a refurbished Kindle Keyboard from your local BigW store for $99 they usually retail for $159 so pretty good bargain there.

Still comes with standard Kindle warranty.

I've read on many different kindle generations, and my iPad. Fwiw, my favorite is the Kindle Fire.

How about in sunlight? I like to sit outside and read in the summer, which I find impossible on the iPad. I hear the Kindle Fire has similar glare issues, unlike the anti-glare screen the b&w Kindles have.

I have a lot of books to read, including one by you and Collin, and I'm thinking of buying a Kindle Touch for the summer months.

Thanks!

I read mostly at night, so glare isn't an issue. I agree that the older generations with eInk would be better suited to sunlight reading. Here's an Amazon discussion on this topic: http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle?_...x2J9O1JJGST525

Everyone here seems to like the Kindle. I used to have one as well...until I found the Nook. The Nook has a much better display and integrated Netflix and Hulu as well...with a 1080p display! I would strongly suggest the Nook if only for the better display.

But the Kindle Fire has 7" multi-touch display with IPS (in-plane switching) technology and anti-reflective treatment, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution at 169 ppi, 16 million colors.

I have an old Kindle and am planning on getting a new one soon. I had decided against the Fire. It seems like it has a number of downsides as compared to the standard Kindle or Kindle Touch:

- battery life is measured in hours instead of weeks
- a back-lit LCD screen can be hard on the eyes as compared to the eInk
- it weighs twice as much

I appreciate that the Fire can do some fancy stuff the other models can't, but do you really like the Fire best for just reading books?

Kindle + a piece of free software called Calibre is a pretty sweet combo in my experience.

Thanks for the tip.
You're very welcome.

Also worth checking out is K2pdfopt, a free conversion utility which very quickly and easily takes a .pdf, intelligently scans it, to break it down into readable 'chunks' and produces a version (still in .pdf format) which is much easier to read on your e-reader (saves all that zooming in and out, or trying to read full pages at a time).

Doesn't always produce perfect results but definitely one for the toolbox imo.

Yes. It fits in my hand well, and I almost always read while laying down-- which is likely why the heaviness doesn't bother me. I've gotten used to a back-lit LED screen with my iPad, and while there was an adjustment period, I actually prefer it now (though that may be in part because I have a habit of reading in dark rooms lol).

Re: Best Ebook reader - Poker books only

From what I've read in this thread is that people are just discussing specific models. I'm curious to know which e-reader Kindle or Nook has the best selection of poker books. I don't read anything else.

Re: Best Ebook reader - Poker books only

Searching "Poker Book" on Amazon returned 5,677 results, on Barnes & Noble 2,208 results for me.
