There was always discussion of cheating in the sense that people were afraid of it. But there was never any discussion relative to detecting it or what to do about it if cheating even existed.
As for player dealt games, in some rooms that was the only option. In other rooms, jackpot games had started and they did use house dealers. Also, house dealers did not become wide spread until The Bicycle Club opened in 1984.
As for me, I never had a problem with player dealt games and you did get to play more hands per hour. But house dealer dealt games were probably safer from a cheating perspective.
