Because cold-calling in position is not very profitable, and on Zoom it's a waste of time to play a "break-even hand" (like 76s), when you can just fast-fold a few hands to get a hand with a higher EV. At least with pairs, you have simple post-flop decisions and the hand is often over after one bet. Playing a flopped mid/bot pair or a draw can take 3 minutes and barely nets you anything in the long run.
In tougher games, flatting with marginal hands is even worse, because you're gonna get squeezed or overcalled and then have to play with the worst relative position.
The one seat where you
can press the CALL button at a reasonably high frequency is the BB, when you're closing the action. In most other seats, you shouldn't be calling pre more than about 8% of the time or something like that.
