Is it worth reading super system 1 if you have already read super system 2? I haven't read either

I wouldn't bother with either. They're of historical interest only.

Define worth reading? IMO it's a great book that can give you a great understanding of general poker concepts

Cheers lads, any you would recommend reading? The ones I've read are fairly basic and want something more advanced for online play

If you are interested in some of the more obscure games it might be worth it. For NLHE probably not unless you are interested in finding out how some others at a live table are thinking (many live players still read SS1/2).

I've read - Phil Gordon's little green book (I found this to be good for basic poker knowledge) ,
Caro's Book of Tells (I found this to be very outdated, but still an interesting read with a couple good peices of knowledge)
and I'm currently reading Moorman's Book of Poker (This book gives specific insight into players minds in specific situations. This book shows you how a pro thinks there way through a hand and I'm deffinetly enjoying it)

I had heard SS1/2 were very outdated. However, more recently someone who i know to be a good player exclaimed SS2 is a must read and essentially a poker bible?

Reconsider whether they're a good player.

Haha ok then
Well it seems that people are very aware of which books aren't good, however when it comes to useful books the question seems to be alot harder to answer.

I specifically enjoy playing tournament poker and also feel that i would greatly benefit from a a book out lining betting sizing and tournament play ect?
Any idea where to go from here?

Read Kill Everyone for a primer on solid tournament play which goes beyond the very basics. After that I'd move on to The Raiser's Edge. I'd probably then go for training videos and I think there's a discussion of ICM in The Mathematics of Poker.

arent the 3 harrington books no longer considered the books to start with for a tournament player ?

And an addon question
As for the ICM as well as GTO, these are phrases i see repeated so often. But never do i see truly indepth analysis on them. Does everyone just understand these as a concept, but noone really have a deep understanding of how to mathemathically apply it in game more precisely ? If there are any books or serious articles that go deeply into these 2, id like to know.

(I actually know the ICM formulas, but those are too complicated to use in game, i want something that teaches me how to use it in game with maybe simplified formulas, and explaining with the full math why these simplified formulas are correct to use (in certain situations if not for general use). I understand game theory as a mathematical concept, i understand it applies to poker, and to balance its use vs playing oponents tendencies but for me poker is too complex to really apply it to multistreet hands, even off-table. i would like a book that goes into this application)

Arjen, start reading Applications of No Limit Hold'em, but if you struggle with that read Poker's 1%.

As far as strategy goes it's more or less worthless. However, I found it to be rather interesting as far as learning about poker history and thought it was a pretty enjoyable read overall.

Hey bud, another very good book for tournaments is called Secrets of Professional Tournament Poker by Jonathan Little, there are 3 books in the series and I find them very enjoyable to read. The books have also received great reviews via amazon and on this site.

Agreed.
I read them in that order, but I think I'd suggest racing through Miller first. He doesn't use the term "GTO" at all, but his strategy is almost entirely based on Janda's videos, which in turn were made with the intention of finding an approximation of optimal/unexploitable play.
Miller's approach is low on math, and somewhat over-simplified or even bad, with arbitrary numbers pulled out of thin air (e.g. "Bet 70% of your range on every street") but it's a very readable/useful introduction to the idea of frequency-based plays.
Janda's book completely changed the way many players think about poker, and it's basically required reading if you have ambitions of moving to 100NL+.

To OP, I enjoyed 'Super System' greatly, but if you want to learn strategy for winning online, buy a book that was written in the last five years.

Thanx, i have read some articles of Janda and they totally convinced me that this is the guy who understands poker instead of writes the same everyone else does .
Unfortunately i cant order the book where i am right now so it will have to wait a little. It surely will be my top priority when i do have the chance though

OP, if you've not already looked at the Books and Publications forum, there's loads more information to help you there.

[QUOTE=Arjen;45967478]arent the 3 harrington books no longer considered the books to start with for a tournament player ?

I would love an answer on this one from someone who has been playing a while. I started playing several months ago and have found the information in V1 to be pretty obvious. Thoughts on the Harrington books?

I've pretty much got the concepts of ABC Tag style and now just need to play to refine and improve....I'm off on holiday in a month and am looking for a book I can read in the poolside bar...basically looking for the next book up from 'Crushing the Microstakes'. I'm considering Harrington's no limit holdem online but perhaps there is another. Ideally for fast poker but I guess there's nothing been published on that yet. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

^^Go for Ed Miller's Small Stakes No Limit. It's a little old now so take some of the exploitative recommendations with a pinch of salt.
